Saban on hot mic calling MLaw a reach

It's also funny because wasn't the consensus before the draft started that there was what, around 12 or 13 first round prospects in this class? So if they were all picked before 14-17, what were the other teams supposed to do if there wasn't first round talent to pick? Reach. But Dallas got the pretty good player they wanted and two other players on top of it. While it might have been a "reach," they go their value out of it. You can't magically steal a prospect from another team or summon up a new one. You have to pick from what's available.
Lemon was probably the last 1st round grade guy for teams. But not necessarily every one would have him there.

Who really cares who says what…the only thing that matters is if the player is in shape to play, knows his assignments and can make positive contributions to the defense.
There are no perfect players and they all have their shortcomings; the only thing that matters is the staff coaching the players up and developing them to their maximum potential.
I would rather draft a player with a chip on their shoulder with something to prove instead of a lazy player who doesn’t have the work ethic to improve due to his massive ego.
The NFL is a step-up in competition for everyone. Every player at this level is talented; I think it’s the intangibles that separate the good players from the great players.

So, apparently, Saban didn't consider this guy a first round pick and thought he would be a day 2 sleeper. But, what does the GOAT know?
The GOAT? You mean this Nick Saban?

Nick Saban NFL Coaching Highlights
Team: Miami Dolphins (2005–2006)
Overall Record: 15–17
2005 Record: 9–7 (2nd in AFC East)
2006 Record: 6–10 (4th in AFC East)
Playoff Record: 0–0

Before his head coaching stint, Saban served as the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns from 1991 to 1994. His tenure in Miami is widely considered a brief interlude between his highly successful college coaching career at LSU and Alabama.

The draft is over. Where a guy was drafted has absolutely ZERO bearing on the direction of his career. The only things that matter now are is he a hard worker and will the coaches put him in a position to succeed. Every person who follows the draft knows Malachi Lawrence is a good football player.

Don't get how it's fake to say the same thing in a different tone. People today should be so fake (i.e., consistent).

People should be real and less fake. It’s corny. It’s why podcasts are thriving and traditional journalism is dying. If he was fake throughout ur I wouldn’t care but he got caught being fake and should’ve stood on business. He didn’t. Ruins a guys moment then proceeds to be fake.

Lawrence was a late riser. There were multiple mocks with him in the late 1st round over the last month.

But we didn't use 20 on Lawrence alone. We used 20 on Lawrence, Devin Moore and LT Overton.
So this pick could be even worse.

Instead of only one possible bust which occupies a roster spot and drags on the salary cap now we could have 3 of them.

It's not just about drafting college players with great attributes and durability, but those that have a will to improve and win and are adaptable. Any selected college player being a bust is possible but not necessarily probable. At this juncture we have to wait and see how the regular season unfolds with drafted players, otherwise we are just pissing into headwinds.

I mean, the draft was low on "1st" round grade guys.
It wasn't an awful draft for general talent, but not high on top.
Once you get into that 20+ range, I'm sure a lot of teams had different board rankings. Dallas may of wanted to trade down one more time, but didn't. So they took the guy they wanted.
Reach? So be it.

Saban may be the modern GOAT CFB coach, but I don't think he's the gospel for players he never met.

Saban is not coaching our defense. No disrepect to Saban but Parker wanted Lawrence and to me that is what matters after all it is Parkers butt on the line give him what he needs to install his defense
Nobody is making that claim. Saban is now a talking head pundit and that's his opinion, and all I did was post it.

The question is........ did Parker want Lawrence or did he just need an edge guy and Lawrence was the next man up at the position? We move up one spot to ensure we got Downs. We moved back out of 20 before drafting MLAw....... so we apparently weren't concerned about getting jumped for him. Everything I have read about the kid implies that he's a project. He has the athletic ability and the hustle to be really good. But, it might take a few years..............as it did with DLaw who was a second rounder.

Considering they didn’t have a 2nd round pick and he’s the guy Parker wanted for his scheme… I’m fine with it .
Except we need a corner and LB help.

Blew a 1st on a DE who won’t start.

There's a reason why four other coaches wanted Lawrence when Dallas drafted him. He's surely not bereft of 1st round talent if four other coaches were disappointed that we beat them to the pick. Guys like Saban can say whatever suits their fancy when it's not him making the decision. Ignore it.
If he’s so great, would you pick him over Downs?

Nope.
