Cowboys rookie DB Caleb Downs on @1053thefan on what his role is going to be in Dallas' defense: "Being able to use all my talents and be able to make an impact on the field, whether that's close to the box or the deep part of the field. Being able to be multiple and make plays on the defense.

"I'm a defensive player. Being able to play at the line of scrimmage, being able to play at the second level, the third level. Being able to do a lot of different things. (I'm) a full-rounded player. If you're a full-rounded player that can make plays in all facets of your defense and make your defense better, that's who you want on your team. Not necessarily just, 'I want somebody to be able to set the edge.' That's great, but if he doesn't necessarily make the play then it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, you want playmakers. That's what I am."

Guy is a football junkie, that is why he was able to play his freshman year at Alabama. He credits his dad who also played in the NFL and was taught to the importance of study and practice. During the press conference he was asked about a game in which LSU WR Nabers said that Downs was calling out the plays ahead of time knowing exactly what LSU was going to do though out the game. Which is why Nabors was upset that NY did not take Downs when they had the opportunity. When he 1st got to Dallas the 1st question he had for Parker was when he could get the playbook.

A dream come true.

Perhaps Caleb is justifiably concerned about the talent level of this team could make it difficult for him to match the success that he saw with Ohio State. It will be quite a challenge for him to equal the same success of his previous years with such a stacked college team to rely upon.

Nevertheless, his talent is something that he knows he can rely upon if given the chances to find the success he had previously at Ohio State. Any intelligent human being such as himself would see such a situation being a huge challenge. CP will allow him every opportunity to find success.

I'm sure CP is smart enough to be aware that his chances of success with Downs will present a great opportunity to be successful with Caleb around to "quarterback" his defense. CP made that quite clear several times already in his own words. He expects success to exist with Downs as a valuable partner with his team's defensive duties. They'll make a fine team working together. Caleb will see it's true. Success will come as long as everyone remains patient enough to make it work, given due time.

He can transform this defense.

We will have the S position set for the next 3 years or longer. Along with Thompson, and if he stays longer or they get a replacement.
With some depth a S also.
Get the CB position fixed, which the addressed, so the got some decent players with some depth.
Will bland be healthy, will Revel be what they drafted him for. Durant and Kenrick and a few others can step up.

If the secondary can give the front 7 that extra second, it will help the young DL.

It may take some time to gel, but it has potential. How long will it take. Maybe not right away, maybe 3 or games, or 6 games. But if we see signs of it right away. All the better.
