Saban on hot mic calling MLaw a reach

So many of you guys have this blind trust of Parker and his unknown ability to evaluate talent.

Just let him make the call. The defensive coordinator. It worked so well with Rod Marinelli.
Not blind trust, it’s called optimism. Try it sometime.

I already posted the article with Jehemiah, Brugler, Schrager, Yates, Reid, and Zierlein having him go in the 20s.

And what is this about him being a Sam? He'll be the weakside outside backer in a 34. He's a speed guy, not like Gary at all.
Mocking and where he ranked aren't the same thing as where they were ranked!
Brugler 36
Yates. 38
Reid. 44
Jeremiah. 40

For me it just comes down to the fact that the Cowboys made the move to hire Parker no one knows how that will play out but if you are handing the keys of the defense to him then give him the players he feels are best suited for what he wants.

High school to college recruiting is totally different than college to NFL drafting. I would rather go with an “expert” in NFL drafting than an “expert” at college recruiting. I do consider that there are always outliers.

So, apparently, Saban didn't consider this guy a first round pick and thought he would be a day 2 sleeper. But, what does the GOAT know?
Whether he was drafted a little early or not I don't call this a reach. A reach would be drafting a player early to fill a need because the player you wanted was not there. Lawrence was targeted by the Cowboys staff. They knew he would go a bit lower, traded down and got a couple picks and then drafted the player they WANTED. Mesidor was not considered a reach there and the Cowboys could have taken him but they wanted Lawrence. Could they be wrong, sure possibly, but they had his former coach on staff and knew the player. That right there is at least 25% of the draft evaluation if not more!

I'll forward to Nick.

After the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft concluded on Thursday night, Cowboys vice president of player personnel, Will McClay, proved that was the case.

He revealed that Parker was sending pictures of Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and UCF edge rusher Malachi Lawrence to him all week long to remind McClay those were the guys he wanted.

And, that's exactly who the Cowboys ended up with. In fact, Jones made sure Dallas came away with Downs by trading up one spot to get him.

Maybe. None of that is verifiable. It's just odd we traded back knowing SD could easily have taken MLAW instead of Mesidor. ..... Pittsburgh for that matter could have also drafted him just to spite us for messing up Makai Lemon for them.

lol, what damage? Parker got the guy he wanted, period. You don't have to like it but then you don't coach the team. I think it is more important that a coach gets guys they feel can do the best within what he wants to do.
I think there is more to this story.

It’s not about the two players.

It’s the leverage CP used on McClay.

MLaw hasn’t played LB since 12th grade.

He’s a DE

Tons of speed and athletic.

The last DC to force a pick was DQ.

Mazi.

McClay played it smart and went along with everyone.

But you could read the body language.

No player who isn’t out-of-the-box talent is going to succeed here. We have no ability to coach up players, haven't for years. I think the guy has potential, as much as I hate the reliance of that word here, but potential isn't capitalized on in Dallas.

A reach? Where did Saban project MLaw to be picked? We didn't have a 2nd round draft pick so I'm fine with grabbing a guy you want when you can, even if it's a tad early. Saban's words seem uninformed of these details.
