I'm excited about this season

Sorry. ...I have high expectations...and they haven't delivered.

You get angry at the fans who demand more, and aren't happy about the last 30 years, and make it known they aren't happy.....all the while heaping praise on the team for 30 years of nothing. That seems backwards to me.

It's like throwing a party for a kid that got a C minus on a test.

Don't worry....the team will give you plenty more of the product you praise them for...all you can handle, and more.
Hate on bro. It’s what you do best.

It depends on the potential of the kid. Some kids can be overachievers with that C.

A lot of times we're an A student who gets an F on the test.

Well, and let's be honest. The last two seasons were Fs, especially on defence. So, a D or a C would be an improvement. Obviously, an A would be winning the Super Bowl. But if we can make the playoffs, that's probably a D and then getting into the divisional round would be amazing considering the last three years.

I think it's more like we're the C Student that gets the C Minus on the test

Average ability (team plus QB plus front office) that slightly underachieves

If your kid gets a C as his final grade for 30 straight years....at some point you can't keep calling him an "A Student that just underachieves". At some point....the 30 years of Cs makes him a C Student
I didn't think my analogy would get such traction! But since we're on it...is winning the division a "C"? 12-4 is a "C"?

I think many of our regular seasons were above "C". Then when we take The Test...playoffs....we get the F.

I think winning the division is a C, but then I think it's also a C if we make it to the division round seeing as that's the furthest we've done for a while. But this year would be a win if we get there imo.

I'm still terrified that the offensive tackle and defensive end play will derail any serious championship aspirations. Also still nervous about CB and LB, but to a lesser extent. Obviously no team is elite at every position but hopefully they've improved the floor and depth enough that we can stay solid. I have alot of faith in CP and think he'll have even more of an impact than Quinn did in his first year. I'm definitely as excited about the coaching staff as I think I've ever been.

Yeah, unfortunately, we can't have steak at every position. But I do like the steak we do have. I think pass rush will be good for us. My one concern is LT. I'd feel much better if we got Decker or Humphries.

I guess the answer is in how you define success.

If a few 12-4 seasons in 30 years that ended no further along than the Divisional Round (usually with a drubbing in that round) is a B or an A to some....then by all means, reward the kid (the 82 yeat old, wrinkly liver spotted alcoholic narcissistic kid) with cake and ice cream and celebrate. That old creepy kid will agree with you by the way.... that he deserves the party for the success he's achieved

Obviously, I'd like for us to win the Super Bowl, and I think the FO has done a good job at making good strides towards that. Like I said, the one concern I have right now is LT. On paper, that's the one area with Guyton that I'm concerned with.

Been a fan for half a century and really the last time this team got me really excited is a few years ago against SF in the playoff game. We were holding our own for awhile...I remember calling my son and telling him that I thought we were going to win it..lol

He’s not going to be happy until you state the cowboys suck and will always suck and Dak is the worst QB the league has ever seen. I think he would have been happier With Cooper Rush starting and us going 1-15. And I’m not even defending the Cowboys since it’s been 30 years but that’s just how he operates.

I get that lol

That’s fine but it’s an unknown quantity at this time . And injuries could still make impacts. Parker is a new DC. Still many questions. And it could take a few games for the defense to gell.

Our schedule will be coming out soon. Depending on whether we have some of our tougher teams early could determine how fast a start we have .
so what? lol. the entire premise of the thread is being prematurely excited and why. There's no reason to worry about if it pans out or not, because it's optimism.

Exactly, and we will know the schedule soon enough. But, as it stands right now, I'm optimistic. I'll especially be more optimistic if we can get someone like Decker, Humphries, or Beachum at LT.

Both. Big fan of the Parker hire, but its also kinda Kellen Mooreish to me where we should expect some situational growing pains with him. I'd feel a lot better if the big non draft acquisitions were stronger that Winters and Gary. A lot of people love those acquistions, but I think we could have set our sights higher and had a real chance of making this a top 10ish unit instead of the top 20 unit people are talking about. To me both moves are solid and make the team better, but I think they are pretty marginal upgrades and neither gets me excited.

I also think it's lot to ask of the offense to just automatically be a top 3 top of unit once again. With no true upgrades on that side of the football I could see some regression on that side of the football as the defense takes a step forward. I think this is a league where either you get better or you get worse, and constantly need to evolve....rarely does a team stay stagnant on either side of the football. As the year went on in 2025 the offense was still really good, but performed more like a top 10 unit than a top 5 IMO which could be more reflective of their collective talent level.

Overall its a long winded answer to say that I like the offseason, but wish they had been a bit more aggressive early on.
i have the same concerns about the offense, but with any luck, the defense will offset any potential regression. and not sure they *need* to be top 3

I agree, especially year 1 under Parker. If they can be top 10-15, especially if our offense can keep its form from last year (especially if they can be better in the red zone), I don't see why we can't contend.

And I would agree. I think the defense will be improved enough for the cowboys to be competitive, it’s just a matter of what level of competitive.

The potential issue in my mind is them being just good enough defensively to offset the offensive downgrade and not good enough to really make the team better overall. It still might make for an 8 win type of year with one side of the football improving and the other sliding a few spots.

Honestly, I think the offense should be fine overall. The lone concern I have there is LT.

I agree they’ll be fine. I think the big question is can that unit be elite as it was last year at times. It’s a lot to expect out of a unit to duplicate those numbers. The back half of the year they were still really good but performed more like a top 10 unit than the #1 unit they were the first half of the season.
