Bob Sturm's film breakdown on Michael Triggs

It only makes sense that you have to be a fairly unimpressive blocker to go undrafted when you have that kind of receiving ability. But is it blocking alone, or did the maturity concerns figure into the equation substantially? Conventional wisdom says he makes the team if he's able to play special teams.

No one knows yet but it’s starting with the recent Rookie mini-camp that the coaches are starting to get an understanding. Us fans won’t know until he’s either cut or makes the team.

I think you're on to something. Blocking could be one of the reasons. Immaturity can mean a lot of things. Maybe he quits, or doesn't go 100 percent, on plays that are designed for him. In that interview after he was drafted, he said it was humbling that he wasn't drafted. Let's see. I'm hoping we got another steal because I think Jshawn (55) is going to surprise a lot of people playing LBer and wearing the green-dot.

It was the maturity concerns. There are plenty of other TEs that lack in the blocking area. The eagles used a 2nd round pick on Eli Stowers who was a QB three years ago and he can't block a lick.

If the maturity issues are behind Triggs then he makes the team period.

Disagree. Disagree strongly.

Maybe that would've happened under McCarthy.

Not under a run-first head coach who walks the talk like Schotty has walked that talk. TE must be an adequate blocker in this scheme. Only alternative would be to cast him as a big WR... but yeah, that's a big WR at 240 lbs.

There's always room for one more TE as long as he's able to offer something special that the other TEs can't beat. Having a UDFA in the competition who has outstanding receiving abilities doesn't necessarily have to block real well if his receiving skills are something special. Good luck, Trigg!

Can we let go of schoon now!!? Only thing trigg has to do is block that's all we want our guys to do

As much as I love his potential, we can't be sure he will even make the team. Yes, easy to vision making the highlight plays he has a long way to go to earn regular season snaps. I'm pulling for him....hard (lol)

Better than that Jerry will keep guys around a couple of years that have this kind of upside Guys like Rico gathers you remember him same type as player in a same school same position kept him around for what three off seasons? Believe this guy is better not to say I know for sure how he's gonna do in the NFL He's a better player that hasn't met his potential because of his immaturity and his off the field stuff his inability to get with the program as they would say..

It's a different situation I mean I'm drafted free agent like Tony Romo Kurt Warner I mean sometimes these guys have something and for whatever reason they fall in the draft or they fall out of the draft..

I mean it happens right or sometimes guys take the long ways guys like Turpin and our kicker in Aubrey they literally had to go to the UFO you remember guys like Warren Moon and I know there was other reasons but Herschel Walker went to other leagues before they went to the NFL..

I consider this in a similar Opportunity He's got a show the Cowboys in this case that he can catch up do the little things help the meetings you know prove he even belongs on the team before he even gets an opportunity to play in a real game..

Think Blue went through that last year and towards the end of the year I think he started figuring it out that you don't get to be Bmoc when you make it to the next level it's like starting over when we played middle school we thought we were the BMOC until we got into high school in 9th grade had to start over at least for most people you're you're at the bottom again improving yourself..

Sometimes when a guy is built like that has that kind of athletic ability They take things for granted and things things will be handed to them and then they get a wake up call,,

Now they're at a crossroads but I believe a guy with this kind of athletic skills is better than Rico therefore he'll get more of an opportunity..

I mean I think that most of these players get about three years unless they're unlucky the numbers just don't fall their way Even a guy like Deuce Vaughn was here what two to three off seasons?

Back up TE will be an interesting TC competition. .
There'll be a lot of interesting camp battles in preseason mostly on defense lot of new bodies a lot of people gotta earn their spot but yes don't leave out Fairweather 'cause I think he was better in camp than most of the others he was playing with not our starters but I was shocked that he didn't get much time in the real games because he impressed me..

Yeah add him to the room full of guys who are gonna be competing and somehow I don't see how Schoonmaker's making another roster unless he's just improves a lot.. Could be the other guys like Fairweather Fant and I believe there was one more that were on the lower end of the depth chart that could be out along with Scoot Maker and make room for the depth chart being Ferguson Ford and maybe this guy or fairweather.

Can the coaching staff get his blocking up to the level of Schoon?

Because when it comes to route running, catching ability and making impact plays it sure seems like it is Trigg > Schoon.
He doesn't have to beat out skin maker necessarily they keep quite a few tight ends last year they had a guy named Fant, Fairweather, and there was another one I can't remember his name, but he just needs to get an opportunity to get activated a few times and then we will see and that will probably be predicated on how he plays in camp and practice and then in preseason..
