Overall better football player. Sanders was the superior runner...might be the best pure runner I've ever seen. But a RB has to block, pass protect, decoy, get tough yards, break long runs, be healthy....Smith was better than Sanders
Very well stated, totally agree. That made some holes for him, but he could make his own. That O line helped him, sure, but by no means was Emmitt a product of that line.
Emmitt Smith is the NFL's all-time leading rusher. But when you start off an Emmitt thread in a defensive posture, there's a reason for that. You know it and anyone else taking up that battle flag knows it.Smith was better than Sanders
I was defensive? A "posture" From who...what?Emmitt Smith is the NFL's all-time leading rusher. But when you start off an Emmitt thread in a defensive posture, there's a reason for that. You know it and anyone else taking up that battle flag knows it.
I don;t think Sanders hit the hole like Emmitt did. Barry's lioine, offense, and team were not as bad as some people believe, because they watched Barry *decide* to dart around. It was entertaining for sure....but Emmitt was not afraid to dig in..."north and south" instead of squiggles.Overall better football player. Sanders was the superior runner...might be the best pure runner I've ever seen. But a RB has to block, pass protect, decoy, get tough yards, break long runs, be healthy....
By that measure, give me Emmitt every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
It's like a Heavyweight Champion back in the day mouthing off about a challenger before the challenger (who does such things) even mentions him. You're the champ, bro. Why the need to get all anxious and defend yourself when it's the challengers that come to you?I was defensive? A "posture" From who...what?
You can calm there girlie.
There's nothihg to "challenge"...I made a simple opinion after watching the vid...that he's the goat. It's like a Heavyweight Champion back in the day mouthing off about a challenger before the challenger (who does such things) even mentions him. Make sense?
The highlights included Barry Sanders runs as well? I missed that. Lol.There's nothihg to "challenge"...I made a simple opinion after watching the vid...that he's the goat.
You got defensive about it for some weird reason. You're CHALLENGING me? What for?
Who said there was?The highlights included Barry Sanders runs as well? I missed that. Lol.
Just pointing out that it seemed like an insecure reflex to immediately bring up Barry in a random thread to showcase Emmitt highlights. When your guy is the all-time leading rusher and you still feel the need to bring up another back from his time, it's telling. But go ahead and continue to tell everyone how the champ really is the champ. It's not overcompensation. We believe you.Who said there was?
Itching for a set to? I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
I honestly believe that Emmitt is the better running back but it most certainly is debatable. Emmitt gets volume, it's that adage "availability is the best ability". It is why he is the "Jerry Rice of RBs" and there is nothing wrong with that. Not debatable at all. Emmitt holds all the major records. He's the Jerry Rice of RBs. Hell, he's arguably beyond that (see the 1000+ first downs NFL record above).
And before you say, "if Barry didn't retire..." that is a what if argument that you can't know how it turns out. Perhaps Barry gets injured and has to retire the very next game.
Also, Barry couldn't touch Emmitt when it came to scoring TDs, catching the ball, and blocking.
Okay super duper internet psychiologist.Just pointing out that it seemed like an insecure reflex to immediately bring up Barry in a random thread to showcase Emmitt highlights. It was the first one I ever purchased and owned.... It's still one of the best built to I don't know why they keep switching companies but I still have mine,,There is a reason for the SMITH jerseys hanging in my closet.
They were both great but they played differently I mean you just wanna go with careers from high school through the pros Barry Sanders is probably the best running back I've ever seen..I honestly believe that Emmitt is the better running back but it most certainly is debatable. Emmitt gets volume, it's that adage "availability is the best ability". It is why he is the "Jerry Rice of RBs" and there is nothing wrong with that.
However, Barry averaged 18.7 more rushing yards per game over both of their careers. As per the receiving comment, Barry actually averaged more receptions, yards, and TD per season than Emmitt so I am not sure where you are getting the catching the ball part. As for TD's, Barry averaged 9.9 per season while Emmitt 10.9 - hardly a "couldn't touch" number.
I'll take that as, "I disagree with your assessment, MarcusRock, although this outburst makes me look guilty as hell."Okay super duper internet psychiologist.
I wasn't trying to convince anyone. Is that what YOU do here?
As if Barry Emmitt debates NEVER come up ever.
I'm done with this nonsense. You knock yourself out champ. Maybe you can find someone else to harrass.
Not to me and I Saw them both..... Debatable
