How good are Cowboy going to be this year?

People always count on PROgression but hardly ever consider there could be REgression.
Well said.
That really scary WHAT IF that not one single person here has had the balls to discuss.
What then?

Are they going to be as good as the 12 win teams with McCarthy?

Or the Garrett teams in 2014,16 and 18?

Or is this more of a rebuilding and development year on defense and we should hold down our expectations to just contending for playoffs? Like with Parcells.

Or are we expecting even more with added talent on defense unseen in action?
Counting it in wins 10.

The schedule seems tougher; a new DC yet again comes with new schemes and new learning. Lots of additions and promise, but expect a slow start to things. It can't be as bad as last year? Can Dak stay healthy, and upright (now now guys....). Iggles could be falling apart but Wash and NYG are better on paper. 10-7

It's just how hope works. It's slanted towards things going the way you want and discounting it not going your way. That's fine as long as you have the latter in the back of your mind as a "part of the process" possibility. Gets you less bent out of shape if it doesn't work out, which is how life is overall. But since a lot of folks use sports as an escape from life, things get jumbled.

I think the defense will be improved if for no other reason than the coaches they have will use a scheme that fits the players they have on the roster rather than trying to force players to fit a system, especially a bend-and-break system like Eberflus used.

The offense should be solid and while it may not put up numbers like last year because of the improvement on defense, it should be the strength of the team.

I don't know if this team is capable of reaching the Super Bowl this year because of all the changes and questions that need to be answered, especially at OT and CB, but I feel better about this team and its coaching staff than I did last year at this time.

The commitment they made on defense with the new coaching staff, new defensive scheme and an offseason focus on adding players to help improve the defense provides a glimmer of optimism.
Very well said. I commented on a couple of posts regarding (at the day 2 draft press release) Jerry stating the front office not focusing on the Superbowl but more focusing on making the team better each year then the team the year prior.

But despite that, I think it's going to take 2-3 years (continuing what they did this year in improving the team) for the to even sniff Superbowl possibilities. If they stay on the same path moving forward every year. I can't see why Superbowl can't be in the discussion.

8-9. The NFC west is 4 losses alone, even the Cardinals.
Is Jacoby Brissett still on Arizona's roster? Just asking. I do not want him (of all people) sticking Dallas with another 250+ yards through the air. And another two touchdowns passes. And a quarterback sneak on top of that.

That was a sad day among sad days last season.

One of the top offenses in the league and one of the worse defense with the addition of potential rookie help. That doesn't sound like a massive improvement. Therefore, I expect more of the same. DAL remains relevant financially, but below .500 on the field.
Someone bookmark this idiocy for when we rack up our 9th win of the season.

I think they could be a significantly better team yet marginally better record.

We have been pretty fortunate with injuries the last couple seasons & those always seem to catch up to you.

What appears to be a tougher schedule.

Way too early, but why the hell not….I’m going 10-7…but two wins vs Philly give us a division title and a home playoff game. They decide to show up, and also pull off a miracle the following week on the road and actually make an NFCCG, in which they are blown to bits. Not GB blown to bits, that’d be tough to match, but beaten fairly well.

A large part of me cannot imagine Caleb allowing this team to lose a football game, but Im supposing it’s going to happen here and there, subject to change.

Nice bro. Appreciate this insightful response.

I struggle coping with the annual hopium extremists here because I have reached a bottom line end result type of expectation to my fanhood.

The personnel names nowadays will all continue to blur together until that bottom line perennial post season contender type team emerges for me.
And unfortunately the disappontment is at the front of my mind and not stored in the back.

When they start to win I'll pay more attention to the names, lol.

Again, good post.

We should be able to add at least four more wins, from last season if the defense is even a little bit better, as long as the offense can perform like last season
Bottom line your guess is as good as mine

I think they will be improved
Like 10 and 7
And making the playoffs.
Some talking about superbowl appearances
Are just drinking the koolaid.
our defense was historically bad last year.
We added a few nice players there, but we still need more talent.
17 games, if we stay, healthy and costly improve, learn the scheme, who knows
