Attention Jerry and Stephen: THIS is what All in really means

We're not one massive trade away, it's true. But our lack of foresight doesn't get us in position to where a massive trade makes us a bonafide contender for the Super Bowl. We could still luck into position as a result of our last ditch Parsons trade but will Jerry have the stones to pull off one of these Rams trades when his feelings haven't been hurt first? That's what fans question.
I don’t think they have any intentions of ever doing a Myles Garrett trade. I think what they offered for Crosby and Amari and Quinnen is the best you can hope for.

Nice, well thought out post.

What I’m thinking when I talk of being “all in”, I’m not saying everything has to be done like the rams.

But I am saying to any GM, if you perceive your team is pretty close to competing for a championship, then NOW is the time to make bold moves (plural)

Not “patiently” focusing on building through the draft alone, but getting aggressive in every area that can be utilized. If you perceive your team is close, these questions should be asked:
  • Do we have the right HC? If not fire him and get the right one. (Not just waiting until his contract is up because you’re cheap)
  • Are we willing to spend money on a great HC? In a league where there is no cap on spending on coaches, go get the best HC you can.
  • What do we lack? Try every possible avenue to go get that. Coaches, players, whatever.
  • Do we hang onto our drafted players too long instead of recognizing we haven’t accomplished much with that player and move on?
  • Are we trying to truly win a championship or just sell tickets and make money? Winning accomplishes both.
This list could go on and on. There is not “one way” to be all in. But…What frustrates me most about the Jones is I cannot believe that they do everything in their power to win a championship.

If they just showed us that they would make some true, risky, meaningful and dedicated “all in” moves that matter, I could tolerate this endless mediocrity a lot better.
Now that, I definitely understand. "Endless mediocrity" is probably the best description of Jerry Jones tenure as GM.

I guess that is the irony of it all. The first step Jerry could take to prove that he was "all in" would be to step down as the GM and hire a real one.

I think Jerry only wants to win if it was in a way that demonstrates he was the architect. He could live another 83 years and that still won't happen.

I can't think of the time we were one player away from super bowl contention. 2007 maybe?

W/ Jerry as GM, there are always too many areas of weakness on a team. It's no wonder our D was that bad last season, Jerry systematically let all our decent players walk.
Yea , not this era. Not with defenses which usually needed more than one player.

I know we have had some pretty good QB’s and lucky both Romo and Prescott fell in our laps but what if we had opportunity to trade for a HOF caliber QB this era.

Yes, both QB’s probably enough for normal organizations to build around but how much would have that helped with building a better team . A team that might could have made a deeper run.

We’ve had some pretty good teams which were enough to get into playoffs and a couple more close to breaking thru to a championship game appearance. Just saying if we could get one player when we had those better teams .

The Squealers are the epitome of being in the conversation but hardly ever getting there. Under both Tomlin and Cowher they were there but in like 30 years they got to the big dance I believe 4 times.

Which of course is FOUR TIME SMORE THAN WE DID

But then Cowher and Tomlin were better then all that we had but BP

Between mediocre coaches and the Jones Boys, we never really had a chance and the few times we might have, the HC was not up to the task.

The Ravens have been consistent contenders pretty much for about as long; but only have 2 appearances with 2 rings

And then of course we have the one off of BB and Tom Brady together

THAT all said, I am much more in favor of the way the Rams and Eagles and Seahawks are doing things in todays NFL

I honestly thing you will in the end do better going for short bursts of going for the ring rather then a decade or two of being close and hoping it all comes together.
Never thought much of Tomlin. I think he was more the beneficiary of team philosophy, filling the DLine and keeping it full of studs. Control the LOS, and the game simple becomes much easier. Of course, falling into TJ Watt didn't hurt!!!!!!!!!!!

He’s never intended to step away. I’m still not sure all fans realize why he bought a team. It wasn’t to just be an owner . He wanted to be a Football Guy.

And I think some fans under value Big Ben. He was a great QB. And will be in HOF. Don’t think they’ve won a playoff game since he left.

So, if you could trade for a QB who do you think might could take a playoff caliber team further ?

That might be a fun thread :)

Back in the day Cowboys had some pretty good QB’s in Meredith, Morton and White with solid supporting cast and some great defenses. But only Staubach could take them all the way.

So how much difference would it make if we had one of the top QB’s.

I’m not saying Dak isn’t enough. But surely we can all agree there are a few who are better.

I don’t get excited about much anymore with the Cowboys this era but a Mahomes, Burrows or even some of the up and coming QB’s might could get me excited if we have built a better defense with this offense .

Yea, I know . We can’t have normal QB discussions in this forum .

And I realize QB isn’t a weakness for us but if we are looking for one player to help get us over the top if we could land one of those guys , I’d definitely be interested.

I have BigBen 3rd on my list for his era behind only Brady and Payton.

Gotta look for one on a team that needs to rebuild. Can't think of one right now. It's rare to have a QB of Stafford's talent on the market.

Completely unavailable. Gotta be realistic.

Yes, but they are not available.

We can start by hiring a HOF HC instead of going cheap but of course Jerry has to be the Face of the franchise which undermines everything.
Yes, that was my point, I thought the chiefs run started with coaching. After that post I was curios about how the Chiefs did it and they actually hired Andy Reid in 2013 but it took six years to make it to the conference championship. They made the playoffs 4/5 from 2013-2017 either losing in the playoff round or the divisional round. They made the conference championship game in 2018 which they lost. Steve Spagnuolo was hired in 2019 as the DC and from 2019-2024 they made it to the SB five times and won it three times.

I think right now, barring injury to the QB, the Rams are the team to beat in the NFC.

Drew Brees is a HOF QB and he only got to the big dance once though refs probably cheated him out of a second
Aaron Rodger is a HOF QB and he also only got there once
Dan Marino is a HOF QB and only got there once
Jim Kelly got there four times and could not win and he is in the HOF

Just having a arguably great QB is not enough
Burrows got there and played great but what did it matter?

Meanwhile BB and TB got to HOW many SBs and won 5?
Clearly the best combination is a top QB AND a TOP HC

If this team ever gets its defense squared away, dare I say elite, it will be a day to rejoice. I'm so sick and tired, beat down, from the perpetual dysfunction and laughable ineptitude of what used to be a premier franchise. How long must we endure this torture?

I keep telling people the torture will end whenever the breaking news of the day announces the Bravo Eugenia has been lost at sea.

I kid.

Mostly.

I’m more optimistic about the Cowboys than I’ve been in years. Rams should be favorites on paper. Can’t think of the last time I saw a team flat out win who were paper champions.
Sure, I'm excited too. There's always that hope and optimism (usually, lol) before each season....but it's a different kind of excitement than what a Rams fan is feeling. And I can't tell anyone how to be a fan, but for me, I've seen how this story unfolds. I've watched it for three-quarters of my life, so it's hard not to feel a little differently.

If this question had been asked last year at this time anyone who said Sam Darnold would have been endlessly ridiculed.

I’ll be honest…it’s sad but im regulated to hoping for a playoff birth lol. I’ve lowered my bar lol.

The LA rams have once again thumbed their nose at the draft and the old school ways that NFL executives traditionally have chosen to build the key elements of their team.

The aggressive and highly successful rams GM Les Snead has become the supreme river boat gambler of NFL executives by making a huge “all in” move to acquire two time Defensive player of the year and 5 time first team All Pro Myles Garrett from Cleveland. In exchange the rams gave up their talented young LB Jared Verse, a 2027 first-rounder, and a conditional 2029 3rd round pick.

Attention JJ and SJ: THIS is what you call “All in”.

What is admirable about this move is not just that Les Snead and the rams made this move. It was WHEN and WHY they did it.
  • By making the move in the spring, both the rams and the browns have those players in place for all remaining OTAs, mini-camps, training camp, etc. (Unlike a week before the season…if you know what I mean)
  • The rams have shown they are willing to take a big risk WHEN THEY ARE CLOSE TO WINNING IT ALL. Last year the rams were really close to making the SB, losing to the eventual champs, the Seahawks 31-27 in the NFC championship. It was clear they needed a better pass rush. And they got it.
  • Now the rams have to be considered the NFC favorite going into 2026. They are (on paper) what appears to be a much better football team.
In short, the rams GM saw last year that if they didn’t “go for it” and make a big move, they would likely not be better in 2026.

And for everyone saying the rams are “mortgaging their future” by doing this - they have already done this in 2021, and have a Lombardi to show for it. No guarantees this trade will translate to a SB win, but it is a lot more likely now than it was last year.

When the Cowboys say they are not willing to take risks like this with draft capital to “go for it”, then they might as well say, “We’re just hoping we’re going to catch lightening in a bottle”. Les Snead is saying, “Hold my beer while we GRAB that bottle”.

Low risk, low reward.

And here’s the rams playoff record under Les Snead since he took over in 2017:
  • 10-6, 2 NFC championships in 3 appearnces, and 1 Lombardi.

  • Cowboys in that same period: 2-4 with a ton more draft picks and “financial responsibility”.
Who’s ALL IN?
Here you go Bob, it's all ready for you let us know when you have a link to the forum you run over there for the Rams... :muttley: :laugh::oldcouple:

After seeing Mahomes led Chiefs team miss out on the playoffs I have no confidence in one man doing it.

Ultimately you can put up all the points you want….or all the sacks you want….it ultimately comes down to the team who’s the most physical and the toughest. Who gets punched in the mouth and then punches back. It takes a certain toughness to win and it’s why guys like Herbert can’t even win a playoff game or why the Bengals can’t even make the playoffs.
