He's not my boy. I don't see the need to jump on his case to the default HE SUCKS like some do. People expected too much too soon from this kid. He flipped sides from his senior year. Then he got hurt. The truth is he was getting better and showed signs that he can play. This isn't a Taco or Mazi situation where a 1st was used on a bust.

Uh huh, uh huh. We'll find out this year if he's a bust or not. He's trending that way for my money.
 
The Tylers have made a pact to support each other. I'm not sure how much you can trust what they say.

If they are talking about an offensive lineman being a disappointment in OTAs they don't know what they are talking about. Linemen don't show what they can or can't do in shirts and shells practices.
 
Last year he couldn’t stay healthy. First year he was quick to sit out when hurt.

His on field skills are solid but you can’t progress on the sidelines

This gets said all the time, but typically without specifics behind it for a real conversation to happen. In what ways did Guyton show improvement? In 2025 he had

  • 1st 5 games - 18 pressures on 221 snaps (1 per 12 snaps)
  • last 5 games - 13 pressures on 197 snaps (1 per 15 snaps)

In his rookies season he allowed 26 pressures on 439 snaps (1 per 16 snaps). For comparison Chaz Green allowed 33 pressures on 380 career snaps (1 per 12 snaps).

I would agree the penalties were better, although still an issue. I think we saw multiple game with improvement in the run game in 2025. Pass protection which is my top concern for a LT didn't show much improvement, and there is even an argument he regressed in that area. I also just dont see the consistency....Are there even two consecutive games we can point to from 2025 to say that was a really strong performance from Guyton?

I get his physical tools give him a high ceiling, but I don't see the issue in people saying that hes sucked so far in his career when that's exactly what the tape suggests. If there is improvement in his play that needs to be acknowledged, that's great, but lets actually talk about what it is instead of just throwing out vague statements and expecting others to blindly buy in. Even Mazi Smith I can look at his 2024 tape and find a solid stretch of games to be optimistic about, and I remember specifically that we did on this board....2nd half of the Pittsburg game, Washington, NY, maybe even Houston that year? It's the NFL where everyone has talent or they wouldnt have made it this far....what we need to see is some level of consistency, especailly from an OL. A skill player you can get on the field if they lose a lot of reps, but have an explosiveness to them to get you a couple of chunk plays every game. For an OL it's the exact opposite. You have to win reps at an extremely high rate.

Well said.

In this case, we overdrafted him. He's a project pick, a guy who should've played sparingly while he learned what he needed to do w/ his hands and feet. He should've never been the starter his rook year, but Jerry painted himself into a corner as usual, forcing us to start him. We can only hope now that forcing him in too soon didn't hurt his development.

He isn't on the same planet as Mazi/Taco as a prospect. Extremely weak comparison.

The improvements were w/ his hands and feet usage and leverage. Can't measure that w/ stats. This was a very raw rook learning, not some vet that you can evaluate using stats.

And I can respect that some of his technical skills have improved, but if the results aren't there I still can't justify getting him on the field....or at very least not bringing in veteran competition for the position. We've seen plenty of bad QBs with cannons for an arm. Hes a high ceiling/low floor player who has been a liability for the OL for two seasons now. I'm rooting for him because of that ceiling, but we can't dismiss that he has been awful as an NFL caliber LT to this point in his career and we are hoping for better results moreso than expecting better results out of the player.

He wasn't awful last season. He started off badly coming off an injury, started playing fairly well, then got hurt again.

Not having a backup plan after overdrafting a very raw rook was one of a myriad of really dumb moves by Jerry.

At least we have another OLT type on the roster now in Shelton. The shoulder injury he sustained in 24 really hindered his strength training, so hopefully he can now get stronger.
 
It's always encouraging to see a close teammate giving credit where credit is due. Nevertheless, Tyler Guyton will be expected to impress more than just Tyler Smith if he expects the coaches to treat him with respect and permit him to remain as a starter at LT. Competition should be serious and intense.

Actual Proof must be well provided for Guyton to remain a starter when the season gets underway. Let's just hope his improvement is for real and not only the words of a player/friend who's personally involved in his tutoring. Left tackle is a position that actually needs to be successful if the offense is destined to help this team into the playoffs and possibly, beyond that.

The totality of his 2025 tape was absolutely awful. Give me two consecutive games from when he was healthy and improved that I need to go watch to change my mind. I’m happy to review the games and report back what I’m seeing.

The only game I really remember being excited about guytons play was Carolina, but it’s also been a few months since I’ve reviewed any OL film so I’m open minded.
 
I hope they all take a leap forward but I know that isn't the case so i'll believe it when I see it in live action on the field.
