Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby to enter gambling addiction program

It's odd IMO that no one is talking about the addiction.........
Imagine this leading to gambling debts and kids are forced to throw games.

A gambling addiction involves a persistent, uncontrollable urge to gamble despite severe personal, emotional, or financial consequences. Key warning signs include "chasing losses" (gambling more to win back money), lying to hide behavior, relying on others for financial bailouts, and feeling restless when trying to stop
Yes and in the prior era that was a real concern.
Kids were betting directly with bookies and people who coudl gain inside rknowledge and leverage it.
I had a HS buddy who famously threw games and went to prison for it,
These kids are using apps and not getting behind because the money hits the account first and you arent dealing with shady people setting you up. .

Sorsby had a very real addiction. He was betting on turkish soccer and weird nonsense just to bet.
But he also had a lot of money to waste.
He has all his financial accounts being audited and reports being sent to the NCAA monthly for the remainder of his college career.

The real downside of the apps system is how easy it is for teenagers and young adults to use.

Thanks for sharing this......I did not know about betting via apps. I guess that makes it nearly impossible to build any outstanding debts, which is good. But still, an addiction is an addiction that should be taken seriously. The scary thing is all the NIL money being thrown at the kids.

It is scary for sure.
He was betting on things he couldn't even watch in English.
And 58% of college students have bet in some form 20% having used the apps.
Thats crazy high given how fairly new these apps all are.

This is my HS friend Hedake. He played in Europe post jail sentence and eventually shifted to coaching before settling into just gambling awareness once his daughter was grown and he could ravel heavily.

TT rolling out that 20 minute video basically playing victim is hilariously out of touch.

All they are doing is trying to protect the millions they spent on players trying to win a NC. Without Sorsby they have little shot.

So they come out and use his addiction and how much they want to support him as cover.

What a disgrace.

Literally, every school would be doing the exact same thing as Texas Tech if they were in the same situation. Everyone is a hypocrite.

All of the helmet schools have been paying players under the table and cheating for decades. Why the self-righteous attitude all of a sudden?

Yeah no. I mean there are teams that have literally self reported violations in the past. Would there be a big number that would do the same thing? Sure. But some would not.

And in the end it doesn’t make it right because you think Auburn or Illinois would do the same thing.

Cody Campbell looks like a schmuck. He invoked PSU. PSU fired their larger than life HC, against serious backlash from the alums, days after the Sandusky scandal broke.

I hope the Big 12 sticks it to them.

What PSU did with the sexual misconduct and coverups was ILLEGAL.

Sorbsy betting on games several years ago on games that he himself never played in is NOT ILLEGAL.

They don’t even compare. Apples to oranges.

so all that matters is that it is not illegal
I guess that makes a gambling addiction just fine?
There are already many who think the games are fixed and THAT is because of gambling.

Which is worse? Gambling on games that you don’t participate in, or domestic abuse?

Kinda hilarious in the big scheme of things….leagues want to play with the devil as the gambling aspect has become so big but then want to draw ethical lines too. Like trying to instill honor among thieves

how about both being bad; one bad right now and one likely to get really bad when you are facing knee breakers?

You are missing the point. Campbell acts like PSU did nothing and no one threatened to boycott them.

That’s false. They fired Paterno days after the incident broke. They also fired the University president.

He’s the one making an apples to oranges comparison to justify his desire to keep his million plus dollar attempt at a NC on track.

And now he’s going to the supplemental draft.

Best outcome for all.

there is no way any NFL team will draft him,he is way too toxic.

Dallas better stay clear . A team like the Rams might give it a shot or even a Jets team who’s gone back to Geno Smith for heavens sake . Let them .

Ultimately, nothing happens here that matters except to Texas Tech and frankly that matters only a bit because Tech has a really good backup QB in Will Hammond who was an elite 11 kid. They will remain the Big 12 favorite by a good margin. Just check your favorite betting app I say sarcastically.

Sorsby will be drafted in round 3-4 of the supplemental draft IMO and get to sit a year learning but with his Tech NIL money and a base NFL paycheck plus year of service accruing.
He definitely doesn't lose in that scenario. And the NFL did next to zero to Boutte so will likely follow suit with Sorsby.

The true villain is as usual, the NCAA.

With Boutte and Sorsby we saw a kid play 2 full seasons after betting on his own team. And zero change to policy or further acknowledgement. Not even a sternly worded letter to the school where they bet. The prohibet app is ALL they have. And any 8th grade kid knows how to use an iPad or PC to get apps that would bypass that app without even bothering with a burner phone.

So, it doesn't feel like there is really any actual effort being made to stop betting.
It's just punishing guys being caught with the deterrent being very minimal because it requires a snitch.

Sorsby gets to keep his $5 million Tech NIL money?
