I strongly hope you’re right on Guyton. If so, and the right people stay healthy, this team ought to be in ok shape. I haven’t liked the roster this much in decades.

My question is, " does he have the heart"?

There's a long list of guys that had the physicality and the brains but didn't have the heart to excell and go next level

Definitely. That's why the talk about he's in the BSOHL, or his technique is better, or his diet is improved, etc. doesn't really matter. The question is, can he hang in there during a long season when he's beat up (like every player) and things are hard. So far he hasn't been able to do that. Either that or his body is incapable of surviving high-level football, which isn't much better.

Sounded like a lot of blah blah blah until the comparison to the athleticism of Tyron Smith and specific sets looking sharp.

Not sure what to think about him at this point. Only thing I do know is that he has the physical ability to be a top 10 OLT in the NFL. Now it's time to see if he has the toughness and learning ability to be that.

He really is key though.

Supporter? Maybe, it's more that he's the only one on the roster that can play OLT so I am simply hoping beyond hope that he can play. Oh, Shelton has the skillset, just needs to get stronger. His shoulder injury the previous season kept him from the necessary weight training program. We have 2 OLT types on the roster. We desperately need Guyton to work out, or we'll be trotting someone out there who will get abused by speed rushers. No matter how strong and tough a player is, he must be able to slide laterally to stop speed rushers from crushing your QB if he's playing OLT.
 
I will take the wait and see approach. He has fought through nagging injuries his first 2 seasons. See if he can stay healthy. But this is basically a make or break year. As we all know.

I would agree the penalties were better, although still an issue. I think we saw multiple game with improvement in the run game in 2025. Pass protection which is my top concern for a LT didn't show much improvement, and there is even an argument he regressed in that area. I also just dont see the consistency....Are there even two consecutive games we can point to from 2025 to say that was a really strong performance from Guyton?

I get his physical tools give him a high ceiling, but I don't see the issue in people saying that hes sucked so far in his career when that's exactly what the tape suggests. If there is improvement in his play that needs to be acknowledged, that's great, but let’s actually talk about what it is instead of just throwing out vague statements and expecting others to blindly buy in. Even Mazi Smith I can look at his 2024 tape and find a solid stretch of games to be optimistic about, and I remember specifically that we did on this board....2nd half of the Pittsburg game, Washington, NY, maybe even Houston that year? It's the NFL where everyone has talent or they wouldnt have made it this far....what we need to see is some level of consistency, especailly from an OL. A skill player you can get on the field if they lose a lot of reps, but have an explosiveness to them to get you a couple of chunk plays every game. For an OL it's the exact opposite. You have to win reps at an extremely high rate.

absolutely correct about throwing him in to sink or swim
but that sadly is what pretty much every team does to a first rd pick any more
win now league forces projects to start
 
That would be such a boost to the offense if this is true.

He needs a big year if this team is going to make some noise.

You know in my opinion he doesn't look bad at all I know that's gonna be controversial in here I know our expectations for a low first round pick it's supposed to be high but sometimes guys just develop slower you ever hear of a development He looks like a guy who at times look solid injuries have made him a little hesitant have some anxiety in the NFL He kind of loses focus but he has the body type long arms that kind of thing Big body etc

I feel like If he can further develop and that's all I care about just make some progress You never know if you give up a guy on a guy like him right now and he goes to another team and turns into a five year starter at left tackle you're going to hate yourself and it happens all the time you let guys go It took him a while but now boom they're on track I mean there's some teams out there that must be kicking themselves at sam Darnold won a Super Bowl ring and they told him he wasn't good enough to be in the NFL,

Funny how that works out..
