To have a place in history I would think you would need more favorable history, and without any playoff success, I'm afraid the best he can do is the best of the rest. Is that where we are now?

Roger Staubach is QB 1 in cowboys history.

Staubach had the highest career passer rating at time of his retirement. He would be putting up MVP numbers consistently if he played today.

That's the thing about sports fandom. It's one of the few things that holds lifelong interest for both the crusty old codgers and the fresh-faced neophytes.

There are hardcore fans here with no eyes on connection to the good old days. Fans old enough to vote, serve their country, get married, have kids, get divorced, etc, but still too young to have witnessed those good old days.

Even though I disagree with a very hearty chuckle I can't help but cut the youngsters some slack for just not knowing what they don't know. I can see how they come to seeing Prescott as QB1 in Cowboys lore. These are the best of times for them.

Roger Staubach is the #1 QB in Dallas history. And no stats will ever change that.

Troy has more SB wins and is #2.

Lore is the correct word as a definition (link) in terms of knowledge. Statistics are facts a.k.a. knowledge.

In my opinion, time is detrimental to reverence (link). What former sports athletes helped their teams accomplish, in legendary terms, decreases in importance when memory fades and utterly disappears, literally due to people's deaths. And that is a sad fact.

Practically nothing is more important than winning a championship in football. The same goes for falling just short of winning championships. What is the reverence of the most important career accomplishment in the National Football League if being labeled QB1 strictly hinges upon statistics? This is a serious question when the word 'lore' frames QB1.

Too much to explain but long story short.....both games made it alot easier to get stats. The whole bigger, faster stronger thing is a lie. If aliens come they'd think Dak was light years better than Troy.

When you start talking about Dak's place in Cowboy history, you shouldn't start with stats.

Having the best this or the most that doesn't mean anything.

At the end of the day the top 2 names are etched in stone. #3 is more than a step or two down the ladder.

Even as a Dak fan I say these numbers are irrelevant. Totally different eras.

Imagine what Troy Aikman's stats would have been in this era of wide open offensive football. His numbers were even pedestrian by 1990s standards because inside the red zone all the Cowboys did was hand it off to Emmitt.

It does mean something. Sure, it’s a pass happy league these days but you still have to execute the play. It also is a testament to his durability playing as long as he has. There’s a lot of things some of you just don’t understand.
