Why do people watch the Dallas Cowboys?

I was having a discussion about the business of the NFL a few days ago, and something interesting was evident. Companies that look at fan analytics based on attendance, merchandise sales, social engagement, TV ratings, and search volume find that seven teams are consistently at or near the top is those categories collectively. Number one is our own Dallas Cowboys. The other teams are New England, Philly, Green Bay, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, with the NYG and Chicago just behind the pack depending on the year.

The sad part of this? Every team listed has at least been to the NFC or AFC Championship game this century, with most being in or winning a Super Bowl. The lone exception? The Dallas Cowboys. So, how are we the most popular team in the country despite not winning anything of significance since the 1990's? Are we truly riding the coattails of being called America's Team almost 50 years ago?

First, because NFL football is the best tv sport on the planet.

Second, because the Cowboys are absolutely polarizing.

It would be incredible if the team won a Super Bowl in this modern age of media.

The sports internet and football industry in general would explode.

Get a good laugh obviously and because of our RICH history and RICH owner

Why do people breathe?

Large fan base along with many fanbases that I believe are jealous of the attention we always get and can’t stand us. Just look at all the primetime games we get every single year. We are also in a division with other big markets.

But another contributing factor? If you look at the last 20 years or so, we play in some of the absolute most ridiculous games ever. Wild comebacks, crazy back and forth games, etc.

One of my best friends said it best back in the Romo years, and he’s a Giants fan. “The Cowboys are the best reality show on television”… I don’t think he was wrong with that assessment, even though it’s taken years off my life.

NFL fans either love or hate the Cowboys. There is very little indifference.

If they took a poll of all NFL fans and asked which team you would enjoy the most losing a game then I have no doubt the Cowboys would be #1.

The ownership, the stadium, the arrogance, the entitlement, even the state in which they play....NFL fans have no problem disliking the Cowboys.

I believe has been proven that more people watch the Cowboys hoping they will lose vs hoping they will win

Why would people watch Cleveland, Tennessee, Arizona, NY Jets, Las Vegas, Washington etc, etc, etc. Fans are gonna watch their teams. Win or lose

Just tweaking that 2nd bullet point if I may be so bold.

"Second, because the Cowboys are OWNER is absolutely polarizing"

Owner/GM/Head of PR......face of the franchise for over a quarter century

Loyalty to the great men who gave their all to build the franchise into America's team the team which every other team aspired to be at one time.

In short if Roger is still coming to games and watching this spit show I guess I'll stay the course and follow it to the box.
