Best 5 Guard Combos, Smith and Booker don't make the list

I wanted Tyler Warren in the worst way. But no, Jethro chose Booker. It was a huge reach. Now the duo of Smith and Booker are not regarded as an elite guard duo. Who would have known that these two first rounders are really not elite v
 
I assumed Booker/smith would be top 5 worthy, but after looking at the list there are some better tandems than I realized. Especially with smith coming off a down year it’s probably fair to keep them off the top 5.

Our interior offensive line was a strength of one of the top offenses in the league last year and should be again. Whether they are in the top-five combos or not is irrelevant.

I think it's fair to argue that Dallas should have addressed a different position, but I don't think where the combo ranks is a good reason to support that. The team just needed help in a lot of places and maybe the combo of Smith and Bass would have been good enough if we'd gone elsewhere with the pick.

Frankly, I wanted to use it on receiver because we only had Lamb and a bunch of unknowns at the time, but in hindsight, since we traded for Pickens, I'm good that we didn't go that direction.

I still think Nate Thomas should be a guard. He doesn't pass protect well enough at tackle and he's a powerful dude.

Did you watch them? I don’t know where they rank but I know a big reason the offense looked good was because of that interior.
 
If Smith returns to form & Booker just keeps progressing, they will not be out of the top 5 at the end of the next season.

Possibly. His feet seem a little heavy for tackle to me. I do think if he's going to play outside that his best bet is right tackle, but I don't think he's going to get an opportunity to focus on learning RT because we have him competing with Guyton at LT. If you've played on the left side all of your career, it can be tough learning how to do everything the opposite way on the right side. I think we cross-train players too much early in their careers. I know roster spots are limited, but is it better to have players who are mediocre at two positions or good at one position.

He may not be on the left much longer. Broaddus is now claiming that they seem to have Shelton as the one competing with Guyton at LT.

If you’re like me and think he’ll be a Top-5 TE in the league for the next decade it makes more sense. The guy looks like a young Greg Olsen.

But, I wanted to add another legitimate playmaker to the offense, and wasn’t really envisioning Pickens being that guy.
