Romo on pardon my take about not winning a Superbowl

...Tony was product of bad timing and bad luck.

A very good QB with ability to win it all. Couldnt get the BIG plays in post season to move the marker.

The No-catch, Seattle fumble, DeMarco fumble, defense giving up 1st 3rd n 30 ....etc .... the list goes on.

Heartbreaking career, full of great moments.

Still have two Romo Jerseys.. ;)

That is possibly true, but he addressed that lingering thought as well. And his comments now have been voiced after ten years. I would think he would have adjusted to that situation quite well by now.
The Broncos and Texans were willing to give him a chance to COMPETE for their starting QB jobs but the chance to be CBS's #1 broadcaster was too good to pass up. This decision led me to believe that even he had lost confidence in his body.

That 2016 season was the beginning of the end for me. When Romo was not allowed to come back as the QB, It finally got thru my thick skull ( after dismissing so many other signs before then) that winning a SB was not the top priority for Jerry Jones. And this is not a knock on Dak. He played extremely well for a rookie. But no rookie in the history of the league has ever won a SB and it wasn't going to be a 4th round pick raw running QB from MS State that broke that record. We had a real chance that year. Romo should have been the starter when he was cleared. I get the arguments against it. But it was and always will be the wrong decision. I have lost more and more interest every year watching them fail year after year and knowing that Jerry just isn't going to do what is needed to get back to and win another SB. Maybe at some point in the near future, that will change when Jerry is no longer running the show.

Put Romo on Aikman's teams, and Aikman on Romo's teams.

Tony would have 3-4 Super Bowls, and Troy would have none. In fact, Troy would have had to retire 3 years before Tony did.

Bold>That could be true. Tony Romo commented in the tweet of his physical status at the time he walked away also.

While I believe it was a contributing factor in his decision, I have never thought it was the primary reason. He was prepared to gut out the 2016 season, but he totally turned his back on the very next season elsewhere..? I still believe he gave himself two choices, which was either: 1) playing for Dallas; or 2) reinventing himself outside the NFL. His publicly announced his career in Dallas was dead on November 15, 2016, so...

I think his mind was made up well-before many of his observers thought it was. I had already guessed though.

There’s no guarantees . Remember Troy didn’t always win it with greater teams than Romo had.

Romo could have still fumbled the snap, got hurt along the way and made bonehead mistakes .

But of course it’s more probable a lot of QB’s could have had success with 90’s team.

Remember the the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s we had some great championship caliber teams that Meredith, Morton and White couldn’t win a SB with.

We should never discount the greatness of playing on the biggest stages like Roger & Troy did. Even they didn’t always go as far with great teams.

Speculating other QB’s would do as well as proven HOF caliber QB’s is bordering on discrediting them to prop up lesser performances.

I almost went ballistic misinterpreting your commont. You said "couldn't get the big plays" and I was ready to go off.:)

But then youy said OTHER players couldn't get the big plays.

EVERY QB that won a super bowl depended on SOMONE ELSE making a big play.

 You lost me .........never heard/read that.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, I don't think he made a final career decision until AFTER the season ( especially after they denied him the opportunity to save a losing playoff game from an experienced rookie QB.) Couple of thoughts here;

***Remember, Garrett announced Dak was the new PERM STARTING QB. Even after Romo asked if he would have a chance to compete the next season.
***Notice the Op mentioned he ASKED for his release after the season.

I wish Romo had won a SB in his career. In Dallas would have been the best, but I would have cheered for him all the same had he won one elsewhere like DWare did in Denver or DLaw did in Seattle.

HOFer with a SB. His whole body of work would be viewed completely different with a SB. I respect his humility and what he said about winning it in Dallas was what he ultimately wanted to do.

I believe you have it right. Romo's last drive SHOULD have gotten him back in. But Jerry doubled down on his new pet, and Romo (understandably) said see ya/

If anyone dares go to youtube to check his highlights...they would see most cowboys fans and nearly every NFL fan appreciates romo.

Some boisterous Dak fans won't do it.

"Because at that point I'd known the game at such a high level. My last 20, 25 games, we were pretty successful. When healthy. But I was getting injured more often. Body breaks down in some ways through the years."
That's my issue with these try-hard do-gooder QBs. By the time they learn the job - on our time and dime - they are beat up and done. Dak is next. Watch...he'll claim his body was giving out JUST as he was about to "get it".

Cool...but Jayden Daniels AT LEAST GOT CLOSE his rookie year and other QBs by year 2-3. So....there's that.

You don't know this.....at all. They were two entirely different QBs. You are apparently focusing on the physicality of both QBs. My goodness.......so you are saying Romo was physically tougher and Troy Aikman???????

BTW.....Remember, Romo's bad luck or lack of mental toughness cost him at least 2-3 playoff opportunities and 1-2 chances to advance.

Tony did elevate his WRs. But Troy demanded excellence from the whole team, even the coaches. A different era of football, maybe.

I always believed he was going to be their trump card in the playoffs. In other words....Dak would continue to start playoff games as long as magic was there but once the inexperienced showed, Romo would take over. That's what I expected..........

BS

Aikman was a winner and Romo a choker.

Aikman was far more likely to win a SB with Romo's 13 pro bowlers team. No way Tony Romo goes into Candlestick in 92-93 and wins that game.

Get outta here with overrated Tony Romo being better than Aikman. Not in a million years. Aikman got it done in real life. Romo only gets it done in your imagination.
