Romo on pardon my take about not winning a Superbowl

Wasn't Romo quoted one time saying that if he never won a super bowl it wouldn't be so bad, or something to that effect?

And now he comes out saying he regrets not winning anything in Dallas?

BS

Aikman was a winner and Romo a choker.

Aikman was far more likely to win a SB with Romo's 13 pro bowlers team. No way Tony Romo goes into Candlestick in 92 and wins that game.

Get outta here with overrated Tony Romo being better than Aikman. Not in a million years. Aikman got it done in real life. Romo only gets it down in your imagination.
This^^^^.....we don't agree on much (LOL) but 100% here. Not as hard on Romo, though- damn good QB....but man.....

Age will do that .......lol
The quote was made during his playing days and it P.O.'d a bunch of people. People took it to mean he didn't care if he won it or not. It caused a bunch of ugly threads to pop up on the old DC.com board if I remember correctly.

I'm sure someone here will remember the quote better that I did.

That was the year of the infamous Cabo trip.

Sure but I was referencing this part of your post

Makes a lot of sense.

I've often wondered how Bucs fans felt when Brady took them to the super bowl and won.

Obviously winning a super bowl is great, but did it feel earned when it's someone else's legacy?

I personally don't think of it as the Bucs winning a super bowl. I think of it as Tom's 7th and proof that he didn't need Bill.

 You lost me .........never heard/read that.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, I don't think he made a final career decision until AFTER the season ( especially after they denied him the opportunity to save a losing playoff game from an experienced rookie QB.) Couple of thoughts here;

***Remember, Garrett announced Dak was the new PERM STARTING QB. Even after Romo asked if he would have a chance to compete the next season.
***Notice the Op mentioned he ASKED for his release after the season.
My apologies. That was totally my fault. Romo never used those words. Those were my words of this:

I understand what Jason Garrett did.

I understand what the OP stated.

This is my interpretation of what happened on that date. My opinion has never changed one iota since that day. Sorry.

My intention was not to misquote him, but I did.

The Broncos and Texans were willing to give him a chance to COMPETE for their starting QB jobs but the chance to be CBS's #1 broadcaster was too good to pass up. This decision led me to believe that even he had lost confidence in his body.
The broadcasting gig has to be a big factor.

But also, I think he's saying he would have kept going if he was in Dallas still. But he wasn't going to continue pushing for someone else's franchise.

I was pretty sure you were interpreting the situation rather than quoting it.

100%.....but they had made clear that Dak was the new starting QB. His future with the Cowboys was over.......

Bottomline is the Romo we saw return arguably provided us a better opportunity to advance. If he gets hurt again then you being Prescott back.

But that’s not why Jethro went with Prescott. He did because he couldn’t afford for Romo to come up short while benching the Rookie sensation even though we were beginning to see his weakness exposed.

In other worlds Jethro played the Public Perception Card. He was better off losing with Prescott than Romo . and once he made that decision there was no going back to Romo. Regardless if it was a sounder GM move .
Wrong. Dak was not the reason the Cowboys didn't beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in order to advance to the NFC Championship Game. If anything, Dak was the one who gave the Cowboys the best chance, even brought the team back from being down 18 points halfway through the 2nd quarter, only to tie the game 31-31 with 35 seconds left in regulation. The Cowboys were robbed by the cheating referees. As a rookie in his very first playoff game, Dak threw for 3+ TDs, over 300+ yards and brought the team back from being down 3 scores with only half the game left to play: things Romo never accomplished in any of the 6 playoff games he ever started for the Cowboys, including all of Romo's experience. So, sorry, but you're wrong that Romo could have given the Cowboys the better chance to win that 2016 Divisional Playoff Game. Everything proves it.

Well, I should have typed just that instead. :D I doubt there are many members, who have been a part of the site since at least that season, who do not know my opinion on the topic. And to whom I exclusively lay all blame at his feet.

Hint: They're not Dak Prescott's.

That may be true, but NO QB had the kind of bad luck he had during such critical moments.

The crazy thing about this play is that the game should never have gotten to this point. The Seahawks had literally lost their entire secondary and were signing players off the streets to start the game. For some odd reason, Parcell decided NOT to take advantage of their rebuilt weak secondary. He instead played a more conservative ball game plan .........IMO this loss was more on him than Romo.

For some reason I can't help but think about Cabo and how serious he was about winning back then. In the grand scheme of things it shouldn't matter, but if you were getting ready for something so important in your career would you go on vacation?

I loved watching Romo, and I enjoy watching Dak. I personally feel the Cowboys, in a way, failed Romo. I thought the way they gave him little to no oline help from 2008 until about 2013 was a big reason why he was where he was. I think, if he had the Great Wall of Dallas for longer, he probably wins us one. Also, I genuinely think Schotty (both older or younger) would have been BRILLIANT for Romo.

Romo had a pretty good career. He had a career better than many people drafted before him in higher rounds. Sad thing about the NFL is all quarterbacks from the elite to the pro bowlers aren't guaranteed a Superbowl appearance or win.

Its just too many moving parts in an NFL franchise that has to line up together.
