Spagnola: Alas, Paying Respect to CMDR Prescott

It’s always been a team game. But unfortunately in the playoffs it feels as if our QB’s always have to win the game for us because our units are lacking or don’t step up etc. Having said that, it’s the QB’s job to execute no matter what and lift his game. See Eli regular season vs postseason Eli.

Average to even Above Average fan before the game: Games are won in the trenches.
Same fan after the game was a loss: The Coach, the OC or the QB are the real problem here.

I’ve gone from being a die hard fan of this franchise to being bored to tears by it. It’s just the same crap over and over again. No innovation, no excitement, no success. This era will long be considered the dark ages for Cowboys fans and no one knows how long it will last.

:hammer:  Correct you need to be able to block on the offensive line not just for the quarterback you have to establish a run game some physicality bring the game to their side of the line of scrimmage but that's not how it's played most of the bigger games against playoff teams whether it's in the regular season or the playoffs this team struggles in that department So it's not just about how much time does Prescott have to throw but how about we add in the 11 penalties in one of the San Francisco games that people keep bringing up as if it was a close game it had to be Prescott's early interception that ruined the whole game...

But that's not true I watch a lot of games you can overcome early mistakes I watch Matthew Stafford do it in the Super Bowl two interceptions in the Super Bowl but his defense didn't blink His special teams contributed his coaching staff was great but especially his defenseive line was great..

And then there goes something else that the Cowboys have been lacking is the center of the defensive line No physicality They're either allowing too many run yards whether it's early in the game like in one of the San Francisco games or they give up too long a drives they eat up time of possession They're not physically imposing themselves on other teams and also that game that they had 11 penalties on the offensive line they had four really bad penalties on the defensive line some of us that are not casual remember these things we remember the trenches..

Can overcome mistakes again matthew Stafford did it but how about the 2023 playoff year where we got manhandled by the Packers from start to finish and they go back and blame Prescott because he had an interception or whatever happened early in that game..

Do it I keep bringing this up does anybody remember the San Francisco versus the Lions in that same playoff run You remember the half time that San Francisco looked as beaten down and done as the Cowboys I believe the deficit was about the same their offense couldn't do anything they weren't playing well mistakes are being made all over..

Guess what happened in the second half of that game They were able to come back they made a comeback you know why they made a comeback because the defense stood their ground and made sure the score didn't get any further away from them and you know what the Cowboys defense did gave up 3 straight touchdowns at a halftime that's all I need to say if anybody wants to keep bringing up Prescott and thinking his early mistakes which were created by a lot of the pressure and the one dimensional football that was being played because our offensive line was not good,

We definitely are casuals or haters one way or the other people don't get it everyone of those playoff losses you can attribute to the trenches or somewhere else along the team but the Cowboys need to be more physical in the trenches to have a chance against a better teams..

There's no doubt that Romo and Press got at points during the regular season had some great talent whether it was that wide receiver or running back a couple of the lineman were great and even a couple of defensemen were great at the time but they did not show up in those big games the games that we keep referring to was not good I bet if you go back you'd see a lot of the run game if you take all the losses in the playoffs hey I'm betting that the run average it's probably going to be around three or below that's right YPC 3 YPC

For no big runs the run game was not established The line couldn't block it couldn't open up holes it was getting penalties whether it was all game or at the wrong point of the game and then you go flip it to the other side yes 100 percent agree People keep pointing out mistakes yes all quarterbacks make mistakes I seen Troy through terrible passes and have an interception in the Super Bowl against Buffalo and what happened in the second half that's right the team bailed him out that's how it works if you have a better team..

Sign in if anyone read this novel all the way through. If so, you have way...to...much...time...on...your hands! lol

The identity of those teams were the trenches.
They scored the 1st and 3rd most sacks in those 2 SB winning seasons.
In 2007 they also ranked 4th in rushing yardage.
In 2011 they fell to dead last in rushing as they opened up all spread passing to address RB injuries and still only allowed 28 sacks while having 589 pass attempts because it was a really good pass blocking OL.

Most Super Bowl QBs simply took advantage of really good situations. Matt Stafford didn't go from a bum in Detroit to great in LA. He simply found a coach who was smart enough to put it altogether and identify when it wasn't together, so they punted those seasons and played again the following year which has extended his career.

There are a very small handful of guys EVER who have won SB based largely upon their play.
Modern guys: Brady once,. Peyton once, Mahomes once. Everyone else had 1 elite trench group (top 6) on at least one side of the ball or both sides in the top 10.

Sam Darnold has been through 5 NFL teams. FIVE!!! But having a top 5 DL and top 10 OL was enough.

And this isn't to defend Dak at all. It is defend being fiscally responsible going forward at QB while making smarter fans.

And there’s a reason for that.
Yep, 2-5 and int prone. Nice fluff piece by the head boot licker. When you need a QB to step up against a quality team Dak’s not the guy, that’s why he’s called Dakchoka.

They just hired a new DC and complete new defensive coaching staff. They traded for Gary, signed some very good free agents and had 2 1st round picks one of which is supposed to be a game changer. So there is certainly innovation with the new coaching staff, excitement, for those capable, and success yet to be determined.

Say you have two very evenly matched teams competing for the SB. No clear advantage between offenses or defenses. What is most likely going to be the difference in the end? That's right. The QB.

Yes, of course it takes a complete team. Of course a QB is not likely going to carry an inferior team to a SB. The fact is though that when two good teams are battling it out it is going to come down to the individual difference makers to get it done. It is undeniably true that the QB is positioned to have the best chance to be a difference maker.

IF Prescott ever proves himself as a difference maker in the playoffs he will be given credit for that. As of now he hasn't done that and has proven himself to be just another member of a team that hasn't been good enough to get it done.

Ionic I didn't read the word "playoffs" once in that article.

You know, the games that matter most.

Dak has been that good. He is that good, a gold standard for Cowboys future quarterbacks. His career QB rating of 98.3 is a franchise record after 10 seasons, which means higher than Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterbacks Roger Staubach (83.4) and Troy Aikman (81.6).

Ok, give me Staubach or Aikman any day.

Well, Matthew Stafford has zero playoff wins at 33.....
Stuck in a horrible franchise like Detroit. Dak on the other hand came into a situation that most rookie QB's that get drafted can only ever dream of. A terrific OLine, running game, receiver and a not so terrible defense and that went nowhere.

Going to add this as well.

"That's the one thing I love about the Cowboys nation and being a player of the Cowboys is, it's Super Bowl or bust," Prescott said while speaking to fans during a virtual meet and greet alongside Cowboys rookie DB Caleb Downs. "And truthfully, that's the only reason you play this game. And so if that's not your mindset, if that's not your mindset as a fan, then to me, you don't have the right passion. You're not a true winner. So absolutely, we're working every day for it…"
60 million for a few cliches
Not a bad ROI for Dak

It could've been worse. We could have gotten stuck with max dollar contract quarterbacks who never won a playoff game before like Justin Herbert and Kylar Murray.
