Can Jonathan Mingo finally develop into a reliable fourth option for the Cowboys?

In 14 games for the Cowboys, Mingo has 6 receptions on 21 targets for 71 yards. That's a 28.5% catch rate.

Meanwhile, Turpin has 70 catches on 110 targets (63.6% catch rate) for 952 yards and 7 TDs. I don't get why people are so quick to wanna pull him on the field.
Maybe he could have the same if given a chance that's all I'm saying

A 4Th WR has to be a special teams player. If Mingo is gonna be 4th then that’s how he gets active.mingo’s issues is when targeted he doesn’t get open or drops the ball. He’s only still here because we traded a pick for him. Given the reps any off the street WR could have his production, but wouldn’t get the reps

I may be the only one, but I’m curious whether or not Denzel Mims shows anything during camp.
I always liked him for some reason. Always showed promise I thought.

Neither he or Mingo will see significant snaps barring injury, so it kinda isn’t a big deal unless they start running excessive five wide sets. Can’t see that.

No.

Next question.

Hold it............I got this one!!! Will Mingo make this team?

Unequivocally NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Noah Brown is better than Mingo. By a lot.

He looked good last TC. But it's time to not only make the 53 but contribute. Or else it's bye bye bye.

Yes he will because we gave up a 4th he HAS to make the team lol hopefully this kind of thinking is over from Jerry if you're not good enough admitting you made a mistake and move on

Don’t understand the infatuation with Turpin WR 4 and no Mingo is hardly an alternative . Smith Holden Mims these three I want to see in camp / pre season make things interesting .

No not really.

Imagine you are Dak. It's 3rd and 8. Are you really going to opt for mingo over CD, Pickens, Fergy? No you absolutely will not and I don't care what defense you gave you will 100% go-to one of these guys before you look at mingo.

Occasionally a team will spend a draft pick and you’ll know in that moment it was wasted

A 2nd for Schoonmaker, a 4th for Lance, a 4th for Mingo. What was the best case scenario in any of these? sometimes, this board is right in their gut reactions
This board complains about every move made. So yea. Some they will be correct on, others they won't. Im sure plenty said pickens trade was a waste also.

If Mingo makes the team, we've done a poor job of assembling WR talent. Mazi was better than Mingo.

No way Mingo would even be on the field. Rather have Luepke line up at WR.

To be fair in the games Mingo has gotten more than token snaps (in 2024) his QB's were Rush and Lance.

And nobody wants to pull Turpin off the field. The bottom line is Turpin is 155 pounds soaking wet and if he ever got starting snaps he'd get sawed in half. You have to use Turpin as a gadget player then get him off the field before a 255 pound linebacker ends his season.

I don’t think he has much of a chance at all.

Here are our tiers, with nods to classic 80’s fantasy/sf movies

“We are the saviors of the universe”
  • Pickens - Big physical downfield contested ball
  • Lamb - Big, versatile YAC
  • Fluornoy - Physical fast contested ball
“Three receivers enter, one receiver cut“
  • Kavontae Turpin - Fast versatile elusive gadget - pretty much a lock due to special teams and the go go gadget aspect.
  • Marquez Valdes-Scantling - Big fast vertical - his speed and downfield threat factor as well as the fact they went after him in the off season gives him the edge. Early word from OTAs and minicamp were also positive.
  • Johnathan Mingo - Big physical possession (womp, womp, sad trombone)

“There can be only one (or none)
  • Traeshon Holden - Big physical possession
  • Camden Brown - Big physical red zone and contested ball
  • Jordan Hudson - Big physical possession
  • Denzel Mims - Big fast vertical
  • Tyler Johnson - Physical possession

Mingo absolutely must beat out Holden, Brown, Hudson and Johnson or he’s - hundred percent gone. They are similar enough to him that the better performer stays That entire final group are all headed to the practice squad or free agency unless the team goes with a sixth receiver or there is an injury.

Holden probably has the edge for a sixth spot unless one of the others balls out. He also seems to have some chemistry with Dak.

For what it’s worth, Mingo’s “plus” side is that he’s really big and is a willing blocker. He’ll also play special teams

If he beats out those guys, he still has to beat out either Scantling or Turpin which, as mentioned is an extreme long shot

@Stash I’m afraid your man Mims is likely a goner. He didn’t even play very well in the UFL. He’s also too similar to Scantling and Mingo but with even less accomplishment than Mingo. He looks like he was added as insurance.
