QW is locked up through 2027....... trading for Veta and giving him a new deal would likely be 3 years with two guaranteed. All speculation, of course, but it's certainly doable

I’m not sure it has to be one or the other. A Q extension would lower his cap hit for a couple years. A new vea contract would likely come with a smaller cap hit on the front end. There are ways to make it work if Jerry is willing to throw some cash at the cap problem.
