Mosher: Thinks Jerry is contemplating a big move/trade on defense

Dak is the only one I truly worry about. He’s into the weeds of his monster deal that has money pushed into it from the previous monster deal. Do they view him as someone they need to get a 2-3 year exit plan together on or do they feel he can play at a high level past age 36? If they have a realistic plan for Dak they should be able to navigate the cap fairly easily. No reason they can’t take a few risks by deferring these extensions into void years like other teams have been doing.

I’m more worried about challenging for a championship than I am the bill coming due.
Or if they get one with him before that time, can they begin to work on his successor

I agree. I don't dislike him. Just don't see him as a starter for a contender in 2026
I mean…..it’s tough. I think he had a solid rookie campaign. It didn’t look like I thought it would but the good news is he does all against the run. But as a pass rusher they are asking a lot. Not just him either. A lot of guys on defense. So if you can make a big move im all for it.

True, they need a plan in place. If they have a successor in place they can eat as much of his remaining cap hits now which means they can backload some of those other deals for when Dak is gone.

On the flip side if they think Dak will age well they could even look at getting him another extension in place soon which could significantly lower his 2027/2028 cap hits and give you extra years to delay that pain.

Both paths have good arguments, but at some point within the next 9 months the cowboys probably need to choose one.

Yeah, but then again they couldn’t afford to keep Jalen Phillips or Nakobe Dean. And they just traded away their best receiver.

Seems to be coming due in some ways.
I think they are prioritizing their core.........remember they also signed Davis and now Carter. I'm guessing Jihaad and Buan were prioritized over giving Dean a new deal. Also, notice they used a high draft pick on WR and moved on from AJ Brown. Just me, but this next year they could have new QB ( moved on from Hurts). I hate to say it but Roseman is 2-3 steps ahead most GMs and certainly Jerry Jones.

That’s understandable. But how many bites at the apple do you want?

Do you want to truly go ‘all in’ for one season? All or nothing?

Or do you want to keep it together for a few years and several shots?

Is that about not affording them though? Brown asked to be traded. Dean was a luxury for them. Phillips got 30 million a year….did they let him walk because they couldn’t afford him?

I don't think many want to even consider the thought especially if we still haven't gotten at least deep into the playoffs

I guess it’s premature to have this talk on Eze but I don’t see him being a contract breaking guy.
It’s definitely early. Maybe I’m just hoping that he’ll become that guy for us to where you have to make that decision. I’d like to be able to afford him if that’s the case.

I really dont want to make a splash trade but Edge has to be on the teams radar. Yes we need LB / DB but Edge is the most glaring hole on the team.
