Here's the interesting thing about Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. They actually led a team to something.

Carson Wentz too. If he never got hurt Eagles never would’ve won. He deserves a statue.

Booker made the now-highest paid DT in football a non-factor last season. Just throwing that out there.

I also like this. Trying something new.

30 years of failure cannot be discarded but at the same time we cannot lay all of it at the feet of the 2026 team. Lots of new faces and new coaches here that had nothing to do with past futility.

It's hard to be optimistic but it's late July. Hope always springs eternal now, for some at least.

Every successful team ever has had a leadership group whether formally or informally defined. Back then they probably did their team bonding after practice at the pool hall, smoking cigs and pounding beers.

Times change, terminology changes, and the availability and granularity of information available to the average fan changes.

Same basic concept has been there forever though.

A council can be useful infrastructure (clear channels, shared ownership of culture) when the people on it already lead. It becomes empty corporate-speak when it’s treated as the leadership itself. Jimmy Johnson’s Cowboys didn’t need formal councils because the standards and peer pressure were organic and ruthless. Most modern teams are less like that, so they formalize it. Whether it works depends entirely on whether those 11 guys actually police the room and set the tone, not on the press release.
