What if the defence is getting good?

Not saying we will be there haha. Unfortunately, the Rams might be untouchable if they get Donald back. But I'm excited by the progress this team is making.
I know bro. I’m just messing around.

I do think the cowboys make the playoffs this year. I don’t think they’re Super Bowl ready yet. But they’re headed back in the right direction IMO.

Folks, in the United Kingdom and Australia in particular, spell words with 'ce' instead of 'se'. I *think* @RustyBourneHorse's home is outside the US, but I may be wrong.

I live in the US, but I'm a dual citizen and have a lot of family in England. I've spent a lot of time there, and prefer in some cases to write in British terms.

Depending on the playoffs path (we MUST win the division to have a chance imo), I think we COULD make it to the NFCC. I think the Eagles are going to take several leaps back. I think the Commanders age will bite them in the tail. My one concern in the division is probably actually the Giants. But yeah, if we can win our division, I think we can. I think, at our best this season, we are probably one of the top 3 teams in the NFC. The Rams and maybe Seattle are the only teams that are ahead of us, and maybe we can avoid Seattle all together. I will say, if it's us and Seattle in Dallas for the NFCC, we might do it.

So, there's a thread out about how the defence beat the offense today in the first full padded practice. Rather than trashing the offense, which was one of the best last year and was good the day before, I think we need to ask a different question. What if the defence is getting good?

Think about it. If our offense can get back to being as good or better than last year. If Aubrey is still automatic. Then, we just needed the defence to be average/middle of the road......but......what if Parker is making them to where they are good?

I'm not trying to put too much stock into one practice. However, the defence actually beat the offense today. And a top offense at that. They're making them have to rethink their approach and adjust the strategy to go against them. To me, that's a something. Not a nothing.

I think that Christian Parker has this defence developing into something exciting. If the offense and ST (particularly Aubrey) are truly among the top again, I think this defence could make us a legit contender IF they're able to follow up today with more impressive activities. Especially when they ultimately go into the joint practices. Our first preseason game is against the defending SB champs. Today has me excited to see how they do against a really good team. If they can outplay Seattle's offense, my goodness....

So yeah, I'm not taking today as a concern about the offense. I'm taking it as maybe we have something on defence. If we do, we might have something in 2026 with the Dallas Cowboys. I hope so anyway.
..to early for telling, but its good to feel optimistic. I do.

No way, we are bad as last year. If Parker can coach defense to about mid -tier, will be ok.

Im just worried for injuries.

Injuries are my concern. However, I must say, this is the most optimistic I've felt entering a season in a few years. It's more fun being excited lol.

At the very least, they will be much improved.

The nice part is the guys behind it are going to be here for at least the next 2-3 years so there’s a shot for it to grow into something to be dealt with in the immediate future.

It might not happen, and Jerry will probably find a way to screw it up, but at least the possibility is there….which is way more than I can say about the last handful of seasons.

we know the offense is going to be good.
defense should be much much better. a lot of talent added (no more Murrays). and new scheme, new head coach.

the question is not if they are good or going to be good, the question is what if they are bad. that would be a disaster.

I agree that would be a disaster. But I really like what Parker is doing, and, apparently, the players seem to as well. Seems they're buying in.

It is getting crowded on the Hype Train. Cowboys will not have a top 5 defense. Possibly the D will be good by the end of the season which would be great if we can somehow slip into the playoffs.

WARNING:
Cowboy fans . . . it is early August . . . we do this every year . . . yes things seem different with the new DC but tap the brakes until we can actually SEE the product they field. I remember my grandpa always having a cautionary warning about not counting your chickens before they hatch.

naw, no thanks. i’ll go ahead and get excited now and deal with any ramifications later.

IMO coaching in football is more important than in other sports. Coaching in football seems to be a game changer.

Now we will see if Parker lives up to his rep.
Absolutely.

You can't convince me that the Eagles just absolutely nailed the draft picks of Mitchell and DeJean in the same year. They benefitted from great coaching, similar to how Diggs/Bland benefited from DQ/Al Harris. Remember how well Jayron Kearse played in 2023?

Parker is going to get better play out of these guys.

Does anyone know if they have any scrimmages against other teams scheduled? Because that would tell a lot to see both this offense and defense against another team, granted a scrimmage isn't the same as a regular season game or even a preseason one.

I also think they are going to be much better....just how much better is yet to be seen. very low probability of a disaster.

I look for this defense to improve over course of the year. like first 4, next 4 and so on...

they can't have the entire playbook to begin with, communication is key and they will have to learn and they haven't played together so knowing each other will take time.

key will be ability to get off the field and that starts with run defense....and then ability to limit 3rd down conversions.
secondly their redzone defense....allowing less TDs, and limit to field goals.
