Jerry Jones: Very happy with Cowboys post-Micah Parsons trade

The $'s were projected to be in that range before any of them signed. So I don't think he's signing at any time for less than the 38-40 range. Jerry offered him 40.5. If anything Garrett's deal should have been the reason, Micah's slotted in underneath him. Packers giving him 47 isn't something we should have ever been considering.

Generational physical ability but not generational football player.

All of that could have been avoided if Jerry does a deal after his 3rd year when the going rate was $34M. $35M would have gotten it done. Then, if you're not happy with him, you trade him at the right time and you can maximize return. By then, other defenders would have eclipsed your deal and Micah would be a bargain. We traded Micah and then went chasing Crosby at the same money we could have had Micah at, plus wanted to pay draft capital premium for it. Just dumb.

If you weren't sure about him the time to do something dramatic was after we got embarrassed by Green Bay. Trade him for better draft capital than we got, let some other team pay him, fire McCarthy, bring in Harbaugh, and Jerry gets to sell it as a reset, not a rebuild. Lack of vision is the FO's biggest hole.

I understand that but that is the number that was most commonly referenced. Regardless of any of the numbers, the player has to deliver. I don't think he will ever justify any of those numbers and I think we are a better team now than with him.

He's guaranteed $136M with $100M paid to him in the first two years. That's real money regardless of cap accounting.

It had literally worked that way for years on end. A player/agent would turn down being highest paid over a player (Bosa) who was better at the time? Not. Finance basics will tell you that money now is worth more than money later and that's especially true when your line of work is violent. They literally had Dak for reference. They say they approached and Jerry said no. A mistake that hampered their flexibility and got them backed into a corner, IMO.

No. It would be trading Micah, a first and a 2nd.

The cowboys traded away their second rounder this year and traded away a first next year for Quinnen.

The first we traded for Quinnen still counts because otherwise we would have 2 firsts next year. Not just 1 like we do now.


All that said. I’m fine with the trade now because I think getting Quinnen was awesome. Just want to clarify it is not as lopsided as the OP suggests.

No it's not lopsided at all, I agree. And yes, I love Q. I've thought he was the best DT prospect of the last decade.

Actually, I forgot to factor in Mazi and the 7th we got back for Philly with the trade down.

So if we lump in Q, and the fair trade back to Philly... it's this.

I completely agree with this & have often argued it as why a player SHOULD sign while the player & his agent refuse. They are always hopeful that someone will offer the next record deal whether it be AAV, guaranteed money, getting them back on the market sooner, etc.. Sometimes it has worked out for them. Agents want the compensation number to be as high as possible as their commission is 3% of that so it's easy to see they have incentive to prioritize bigger numbers over "safe & reasonable".

There’s been several Cowboys in our history I haven’t been a fan of personally like Michael Irvin and Zeke. But recognize their asset on the field .

Parsons off field altercations and personality off the field didn’t fall into the same category as those I’ve been more outspoken against personally.

Pickens is more of a direct asset to Daks production. Makes total sense.

I’m happy with the fact that they (Father and son) said in the post trade interview that they needed to get serious about stopping the run. Using the assets to add Quinnen and Lawrence and then also adding Downs is committing to the run. We’re tight up the middle.

Now retaining Clark and Quinnen for this season and Q for beyond this season makes me feel like they didn’t lie to me (and other fans) about having a plan to stop the run and stick to it.

Do I wish we could have kept Parsons and added Quinnen. Well obviously that would have been ideal but I also feel making Parsons one of the highest paid players ever after he took a nap during a game would have been a culture killer. I don’t think there was a possibility moving forward with Micah after his nap.

As someone who has scoffed at a lot of the silly criticisms of Parsons made on this board (such as the podcast stuff), I agree with this. Maybe Micah could have fixed the relationship, but that move broke it.

I'll answer that. I had no problem with Owens being on the team because he made the team better. Fans want to label players as bad teammates because they don't like them, but I don't think the players feel the same way. Most players just want to win.

Do you think the vast majority of our players cared for Charles Haley? His locker room behavior has been well recorded, but he made the team better as a player, so they lived with the bad for the good. When the bad outweighs the good, then you move on.

There are probably plenty of personality clashes in a locker room, just like there are in many workplaces, but that doesn't mean you can't still work together to get the job done.
