Sonny Styles NFL Debut (preseason)

Well I’ll say this people were calling him overrated prior to the draft. I sure as hell wouldn’t have minded him at 11. I suspect both have solid careers.
Trust me, if Downs was gone and Styles was a Cowboy, the narrative would be different. There are also plenty of doubters about Downs, and you can probably find them wearing the hats of the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Whatevertheyarenow's. Styles will likely struggle earlier due to the learning curve of his position as well, so either way it will be a couple of years to even rate the D draft class

It looked like he took himself out of a lot of these plays taking a different gap, angle, etc. He's a rookie and it's preseason so wouldn't read much into it at this point.

Good night Alice.
I still love ya, but the whole point of a fan forum is that it forces us to read into what we read on here and imply away, since none of us are mind readers, we default to blueblood-type posts to get better access into one's thoughts

The thing about his size and measurables is they are impressive in college….in the nfl everyone is that size lol
no, they are not.

Styles was #1 out of 3,480 linebackers going back to 1987, the first year the scoring came out.

Luke Kuechly was closest. He was just elected to the HOF.

No NFL linebacker ever has had equal measurables.

2024: 2nd team all American
2025: 1st team all American

He didn’t have a single missed tackle last year.

Caleb Downs can still be great without Styles being a jag.

He didn't look super lost. If anything he was committed to his zones and they just didn't throw the ball his way. But there isn't much else I can take from this tape. Looks like a rookie in his first game.

I implied nothing but draft the smartest player to minimize a learning curve. I don't care what you think is a wise strategy.

The only person suggesting things is you trying to put words in my mouth. How about read what I wrote and do not add anything to it, because you have no idea what I am implying.
Jimmy Johnson famously said, "If I draft another dumb player, hit me in the head with a hammer."

Redsfan doesn't understand this.

Says the guy that gets in a pissing match trying to tell someone what they meant with their post. Go eat another Oscar Mayer wiener.
Actually....I don't recall telling him what he meant; I said it was implied in my mind, which he stated he wasn't implying, to clarify my original thought....Second, we don't get Oscar Mayer Wieners here in Canada.

There were a few scouts and “sources” that said for all of Styles height, size and build he just did not hit like a linebacker, more of a drag down guy.

Your words:

"You implied that Washington should have drafted Downs because he is the smartest player available at the time."

It isn't hard to go back one page and read your post. LOL

And all you had to do is read further down where I asked for clarification as to what he meant.....But you do you

If you are suggesting that Dallas picked Downs because he was the smartest player available at the time, I think it goes beyond just smarts

This is the thing about being argumentative is you don’t take time to read you just reply. I said everyone is his size not everyone has his measurables and I got sure didn’t call him a jag….but proceed.

I think if they extended the draft to 10 rounds, the Cowboys would be one of the teams to benefit the most.

They have got some talented undrafted rookies.

He needs to work on disengaging while being blocked.

He had a problem getting off blocks which led to some big runs.

I saw the game so I don’t need highlights.
