If Jonathan Mingo makes the 53-man roster

Oh I wasn't considering Brown vs Mingo ..

I would rank Brown #4 right now and Turpin behind him at #5 and as the returner of course.

I think Mingo will be #6 if he makes it but he won't occupy a WR #6 roster space (he would be that in WR depth, but not the roster spot itself).

Instead they would justify keeping him (if they do not need the spot for defensive back depth) in the ST specialist spot Goodwin used to get.

Just being on the roster though would by default make him the #6 receiver on that depth chart.

This is the top 5 no matter what the other dozen do. Guys like Mingo better hope they keep 6 WRs and even then he better keep fighting for it.

I am personally against keeping 6. That roster spot is better utilized elsewhere. We have RBs and TDS that can play Wr if need be

I like Mingo because he can cover kicks and return kicks. He can also block. The bottom line is Mingo can play on all special teams and Turpin can not.

I do not Csre for him as a WR. He had 2 fumbles last year as well. I think another WR can do what he does on offense.

Agreed. The first job of a return guy is to not turn the ball over. There is no greater momentum swing than a turnover. The defense has just had a stop, maybe even a 3 and out, and a fumbled return breathes new life.

A big return depends as much on the other 10 guys as it does the returner. Turning the ball over is all on the returner.

Brown looks great, having a good TC, had a very good game.
3 catches, 62 yards, 2 TD's. We seen this before in other players. Did he do what he was supposed to do when in on the other plays.

But Mingo plays ST's. I did nit see Brown out there on ST's.
What are they doing in TC that the coaches see, but we do not.

I love we have some depth at WR. But I will wait a bit longer.

If they are going to have him in the 53 man roster he has to play ST. Hes been doing it in practice but I didn’t see him last night. That’s why Holden didn’t make it last year after a great camp and why Fluornoy did.

Compare these two sets of quotes about Brown and then Fluornoy.

Schottenheimer has a pattern and Brown seems to be tickling his brain the right way.

Here’s what Schottenheimer said about Brown yesterday

The game is not too big for him," Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said. "He does that every day in practice. We see it all the time. … What I love about him is he does the little things, too. You watch him on special teams drills, one-on-one drills and things like that; he realizes that's how you make this football team when you got a receiver room that's filled with George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb, Ryan Flournoy and people like that. That stuff matters."

Here was Schottenheimer talking about Fluornoy early this year

June 9 - When you get through those first three guys in the WR room, WR4 and WR5 have to have special teams value. I really think that Ryan Flournoy is taking the next step. I think he’s got a chance to be a terrific receiver in this league. He’s shown up on special teams for us, in a big way.

June 16 - Just doing incredible. Two 100-yard games last year. You saw him really just do it on a consistent basis. Thanks for posting that. Watching it live I was thinking someone is going to post on twitter how he made a TD saving tackle, but really just made a tackle 50 yards down field. After watching that replay I need to give him props for sticking with it and not giving up. Great effort by him. :thumbup:

I'm not looking at Turpin vs Mingo or any other receiver really.

The only way I think Turpin doesn't make the team is if 1) he gets injured or 2) another very fast player shows he's good enough to replace him on special teams returns.

No he wasn't, but he is still our best return guy by a large margin. I expect (hope?) he will be a lot better this year and am quite confident he will be the guy back there all year again

Downs is good enough to replace him on punt returns. Izzy is good enough to replace Turpin on kickoff returns. Mingo can play on all special teams. Brown and Mingo can replace Turpin on offense.
 
I just don't understand this attachment to Mingo. Did nothing in Carolina, who dumped him, and has done nothing here. Was only even active for a few games last year.

Why do people feel the need to defend him? :huh:

Because Mingo can play on all special teams. Mingo can block and is a serviceable receiver. Mingo made a tackle last night where he ran around 100 yards to do it. There are not many players that can do that.
