Von Miller's QB hit and sack rates for 2025

What are you counting as snaps?

Miller is a good rotational pass rusher but numbers for those guys are always going to be good compared to someone like Micah who plays every snap.

Miller (like Gary, actually) also had a few cleanup sacks that aren't really a measure of an effective rush.
Statistics, they can be deceiving
It’s funny, I haven’t watched Von Miller much
But when I have, he’s always made a play when the play was necessary
You can’t put numbers on that

So why didn’t we just resign Clowney?
I don't think Clowney and Miller would really be competing for a spot - it's more Clowney and Gary.

That said, I have no idea why they'd trade for Gary instead of just signing Clowney. The only thing I can think of is that they wanted the player here for installs since it is a new system, and Clowney simply didn't want to do that.

Miller had 15 QB hits (1 in every 28 snaps) and 9 sacks (1/47) on 420 snaps last year.

For comparative purposes, Micah Parsons had 27 QB hits (1/26) and 12.5 sacks (1/57) on 707 and Rashan Gary 20 (1/33) and 7.5 (1/87) on 653.

Our leader, Jadaveon Clowney, had 10 QB hits (1/37) and 8.5 sacks (1/43) in 373.
Micah and Gary and Clowney played more run downs than Miller did so those stats are skewed. Doesn't mean Miller can't get the QB of course, just pointing out the comparison is not apples to apples

Look this guy doesn't have a lot left but he has something left to add to a rotation and probably be in on obvious pass rush times of the game where he can affect the game the most not wear him out on rundowns and all that kind of stuff if you strategically use this guy he still got something..

Anybody who mocks this but yet Seattle won a Super Bowl last year with the whole defense by committee the no single point of failure they got guys who we thought were pretty washed up in Tank Lawrence guys like him who did they get this year i'm pretty sure they got two ex Cowboy defenders on their team right now maybe 3 isn't Fowler over there right now I mean can we get serious I know a lot of people in here think Jerry just picks up washed up trash but Clowney did a good job last year he didn't really fit this defense as well So that answers some guys question up there let the defensive coaches pick their players not the ones leftover from last year and that's exactly what's going on this year..

Look I realize that adoree Jackson is not a big name and people are going to mock it it's not Eli Apple this is a guy who's familiar with Christian Parker drum roll please let the new defensive coaches pick their own guys whether they fail or not at least its Who they want who they believe can do something and even if it's just a situation like when the Cowboys picked up Gilmore and Brandon Cooks for 5th round trades those guys contributed that's what we need we're looking for depth to help the young players have a little bridge to learn from and maybe get better from sooner than later.

Just a friendly reminder that all teams do it not just Jerry you're just adding and churning the roster whether it's at the bottom or finding some veterans to mix in with your young group...
Hopefully EZE and Lawrence can learn from Von. One of the best pass rushers in league history. Miller is also a small guy.

I used their snap counts from the team totals on pro football reference.

I don't disagree with your second statement. It doesn't tell the whole story. I just thought it would be interesting to compare. Might have been better to do it with other third-down rushers. I don't pay much attention to other teams, though, and who their passing rushing specialists might be.

I truly believe the Gary trade was a reaction to losing out on Maxx Crosby. The Joneses wanted to make a splash so they could crow about what they've done since trading away Micah. When they were unable to make that splash, they rebounded with the Gary trade. There really doesn't seem to be much difference in the two players, except that Gary doesn't have has much wear and tear (28 and in eighth season) compared to 32 and 13th year for Clowney. Gary also has been most consistent in his production while Clowney is more hit and miss.

I don't disagree, just thought it interesting to compare. A more accurate comparison would be with other pass rush specialists or to just do their pass rushing snaps, but I don't have those numbers.

CP knows Clowney. He doesn't want Clowney. Neither does the entire NFL apparently.

Pressure, pressure, pressure, sacks are nice to have, but pressure is every bit as important .

And what else is important?
It’s when that pressure, comes, and when you get that SACK
That’s why I like the guy, when it’s needed he steps up
Also Miller will introduce some unease in opposing tackles , the penalties such as False starts in more important moments could be handy.

Dude just got a job in Houston. He's been playing for 13 years and counting. You're saying the NFL doesn't want him, but they hire him over and over.
