Is the Cowboys offense "overrated"?

Points is still better than yards and you just showed why
Bottom line is that points decide games
not yards
Yes they do. TOP is huge in deciding games.

And they two are tied so closely together, bashing one to anoint another is silly.

Points decide games. Yards decide points.

Yeah I think it’s weird people use yards over points. I don’t care how many yards they give up. Points matter.
Not weird at all, depends on what you're trying to prove. Yards is by far the best way to use one standalone stat to rate an O/D. Why? Because every yard was gained/given up by the O/D. That is not true w/ points.

As I've already stated, points determine outcomes, yards determine points. There are a few exceptions, sure, but those are outliers. It's no accident that the super bowl teams are often top 10ish in both. Teams that give up a ton of yards but not many points are almost always exploited in the playoffs, as playoff teams will turn those yards into points. See the 2017 Eagles, where Belly's D was 5th in points given up, but 26th in yards given up. Did yards matter? They decided the game.

What is elite? If you ate a top 5 scoring offense in the league, you are elite. Imagine a team scoring 17 and winning? Wow, a novel concept.
Elite is when you can compete against the top defenses, don’t see that last season

You do realize I don't even have to take 10 seconds to counter some of that every team has an off game but you already said they lost Lamb in the Chicago game wasn't that the game that Williams had a long run and then fumble that would be in the red zone turned the ball over not the offense's fault on the whole individual fault One player lost one player fumbles They have a pretty good defense,

The Philly game do you wanna talk about all the drops that would've turned into easy points Let's see sanders fumbles inside to five turns the ball over that should have been a score and CD lamb might as well take that game off although he may have had some yards in that game but yeah he dropped some big passes in that game..

That's not overrated and they always struggle against the Cardinals..

I don't think there's any team that maintains all 17 games at a high level no matter how good their group are they always have a let down of some sort so let's just leave it at that To me it top 5 Offense if they're anywhere close to last year if you want to put them 7th that's fine you want to put them after that I don't care they are not overrated There are a lot of circumstances in those games where you look at the losses because the offense had to press The defense knew it because they knew their offense could score at will against our defense they had nothing to worry about they pinned their ears back and just take everything away that is just how the year went..
No doubt there are peaks and valleys throughout a season but when I have seen their offense face a top unit that fail to compete.

Our defense was legendarily bad. I am just saying our offense is good but has a long way to go before I say we our special. The offensive is ok but not special. Our tight ends are average. We have a solid running back but we need more from the backups. Looking forward to the improvement as the season goes on. We need Guyton, Bebe, Flournoy, ect to step up.
I never claimed offense is special. Denver and Patriots offenses were special. we are a good offense. they are better than OK.

but, my biggest concern this year is the tackles. how will they hold up.

deffense? needs to be just better in every single area as they failed misreably last year in every single area.

Well the defense will be better lol.
The offense was not consistent last year, shut out in 2nd half of several games and not great in redzone.
So they need to do better.

I said this at the end of last year. They were not good inside the 40. The kicker bolsters their stats. With an average TE, weaker Frontline, and non mobile QB, I see this trend continuing.

We keep on hearing how the Cowboy offense is elite, but yet there were games last season where they truly underperformed:

14 points at Chicago-yes they lost Lamb early, but if I remember Chicago had a banged up secondary
20 points at Philly-they were shutout in the 2nd half where their defense only surrendered 3 points
17 at home against the Cardinals-there is zero excuse to lay an egg at home against one of the worst teams.
17 at home against the Chargers-Chargers dominated them

These are just a few examples. Everyone keeps on talking about the defense cause it was so bad, but the offense deserves some criticism as well. They must be more consistent or it won't matter how the defense performs.
I read this wrong and was about to dig in on you COOG style lol. I love this post, I totally agree, we don't often move the ball well enough on certain drives, we LOVE TO SETTLE for field goals, we don't put up points like we could in certain games. I for sure don't think it'll be as potent as it was last year to some degree! One major injury which I can see coming is going to hurt this team!!

Sadly I think Steele and backup tackles are who we have seen in camp. Guyton has to be better than average and remain healthy. I have doubts that can happen. Defenses will attack our tackles.

They all need improvement.

I think part of the issue with 2nd half offense was the team falling behind so much, and becoming one dimensional, and opposing defenses playing prevent defense.

Hopefully with better defense it will force the opposing teams to play differently

And yes, redzone needs improved

That happened last year. Cowboys still put up big numbers.

Dak’s Cowboys teams have put up numbers against NFC East teams and poor NFL teams. The problem is when the Cowboys play against San Francisco or Packers type of team the offense struggles. It’s not all on Dak. San Francisco destroyed our offensive line with their front 4. The Cowboys have to overcome that.

At this point and time, anything said about the Cowboy's offense is just gums flapping in the wind..............................
