Preseason is a time for renewed optimism , reality begins after Labor Day

...Russ, the Parsons trade was probably the best thing happening to us since the Herschel trade. The irony in that, ... is witchly-creepy. ;).
Is it? Jimmy orchestrated those trades back then and they lead to 3 super bowls. Surely you you don't think the same thing is going to happen now, especially with Jerry pulling the strings after 30 straight years of proof that his way doesn't work.

It’s always interesting and re-energizing to rebuild and retool the rosters during FA and the Draft which is my favorite event in off season.

Then once Training Camp begins we actually begin to see all of the offseason moves and draft come together. Here locally we get live reports daily on the events unfolding at Camp.

Then preseason is basically a look at some of these Rookies and prospects attempting to make the roster with rarely a glimpse at our starters or what our new team will look like . Which is really the most exciting aspect to me as in effect each season stands on its own merit with roster upgrades and in some cases loss of talent.

After a couple missed playoff seasons after a stretch of 3 consecutive 12 win playoff seasons which ended frustratingly this team has been revamped especially on defense . The expectations have been raised again.

We’ve been here before . And while I think there is just cause for raised expectations I can’t help but raise cautions for pause until the seasons begins to unfold . Many things can happen. Our opponents have been making upgrades as well and there’s always injuries which can derail seasons. And the ball bounces funny ways throughout a season.

For me it’s enough that football season is upon us once again with a renewed optimism things could be better than more recent seasons but confidence is earned not hyped which can gain momentum.

Let’s hope we get off to a good and fast start as our schedule appears to be more favorable early on and this defense begins developing early & our offense stays healthy as it could be much more fun.
:huh::facepalm:

Honestly, with Jimmy apparently back in the fold and the changes, what if Praxit is right? This is a very different offseason than in many years past. I'm not sure we've had this quiet of an offseason since at least 2005. And this is a drastically better roster than the 2005 team.

Why? We are stock traders here. We arent placing 25k bets. Whats the worst that happens if I come out and start pounding the chest and being overly excited about what I think this team could do this year? People in here sit back and say I told you so?
All of us are sitting behind a keyboard making proclamations. None of it matters. We are like the loud mouths sitting at the bar talking smack. No caution needed. Now if you gamble.... caution needed.

And also, I think this might be our best coaching staff since our Parcells days. That's the other big change. We actually have coaches who seem to know what they're doing. Young coaches yes, but smart coaches.

so you are saying McCarthy didnt know what he was doing? Quinn didnt know what he was doing?

I'm sure McCarthy knew what he was doing, and Quinn was decent. But something just feels different. I don't know quite what it is, but we seem to really have a assembled a good coaching staff. They actually are building a competitive team imo, and I love the apparent change in the direction towards being physical.

If you say so. I prefer to wait until I see them perform on the field, and neither me or anyone else should have to apologize for that. Has the last 30 years not taught you anything?
I'm not gonna harp on it...in fact propbably the last time I'll comment on it before season starts.

I'm in a hold pattern. Just the way it is. I don't believe for one second it makes me any less of a fan or I should be bullied about it.

The most pessimistic person ever can see how much better this team is now compared to 7 months ago.
appearances can be deceiving. I remember 2010 and how many thought we would be playing in the SB at home.
I need to see us winning regular season games in a way that shows a true contender before I will jump on the train, been too many years of snake oil to trust on what looks good.

Oh yeah before the season a lot of people had us in the SB and then disaster. Championships aren't won on paper. I have no idea if any of these new coaches are any good. In years past the Cowboys haven't lived up to the hype.

Upgrades on paper who, aside from the players brought to the roster last season, you haven't seen take a single snap yet. No one knows if it will amount to anything, or just another year of shuffling deck chairs.

I guess we'll see on Sept 13 if it amounts to anything.
Sure we do.

Thompson, Gary, Locke, Winters, Odiiti, Durrant. Tape is out there.

Revel and Overshown only played the tail end of the season. Both coming off injuries. Bland was hurt and sat out the last couple of games.

Guyton sounds as if hes stepped up.

Now you can say you havent seen the rooks play in a meaningful game. But who, at this point, is questioning Downs? Lawrence is playing like a rookie edge. Barham has been a camp standout, until the injury.

The talent on defense has been significantly upgraded from what we started last year with. Some just know, some have to wait and see.

I think if you’re going to provide an insight and analysis then there is some value in getting it right, at least closer or why would anyone listen.

Much like when I used to gamble wouldn’t listen to a handicapper who rarely picked a winner.

Loudmouth boisterous type fans just never has appealed to me. And certainly not someone I’d be interested in their take.

That was always the beauty of season tickets at Texas Stadium is rarely did we have any fans as such around us. Those type fans generally were in upper level or endzone.

blind faith died for me a long time ago

We have but it's been a longggggggg time since we have seen this many upgrades to the roster.
The evermore reason for uncertainty of how much it will be improved . Regardless , the unknown isn’t a known commodity yet.

We will get a better indication soon . All we know is it should be better.

In addition we don’t know how much improved our opponents will be and how healthy we will remain.

Soon we will be able to make more credible analysis as performances and results come in.

Agree 100%

We've finally have 2 quality starting DTs and its been eons since thats been the case.

Some say that some of us like negativity but when we see real improvement, we acknowledge it.

The last two seasons defensive roster were pure jungle-rot and anybody that was positive about that wasn't being real nor sincere.
I agree. I think we all will acknowledge once we see it.
