Preseason Game 2 reactions (and overreactions)

I think Cornelius is a lost cause at tackle, unfortunately.

How? He apparently didn't allow a QB hit in either game. He's only conceded 2 pressures. That's good. I think he might actually be able to challenge Steele (since Schotty seems unhappy with Steele)

Camden Brown is slow but has great hands. He looks like he runs with a limp.

Hes 6’2” and looks plenty fast to me

It will be interesting to see how the RB position shakes out. Davis has clearly made his case as the #2 back behind Javonte Williams.

The final spot will probably be decided between Blue, Mafah and Israel Abanikanda based on their ability to contribute on STs. It has been interesting to see Mafah and Blue returning kicks. Of those three, Mafah seems most in danger to me.

The Cowboys clearly want Blue and his speed to be a part of this team. But it may not be enough to keep him. He’s looked good in moments, but when reviewing PS game performances, context is important. Like us, our opponents have mostly played backups and guys who will never play a regular season down in the NFL.

Like Blue, Abanikanda is a 5th round pick (drafted by the jets in ‘23) who has struggled to prove he belongs. Right now Mafah, Blue, and Abanikanda are fighting for either RB #3 or a practice squad spot.

Yes Davis has cemented the #2 RB position, he has produced every time they put him in. Coming off a good first preseason game last night they gave him 5 carries early he averages almost 6 ypc. I think at that point they decided we have seen enough and let's not get him hurt. Let the guys battling for RB3 battle it out.

Well, that wraps things up for preseason game 2. I suppose now it's time for the forum's Preseason Game 2 reactions (and overreactions). The Cowboys are 2-0.........sort of, it's preseason so the records don't really count, but I'd rather see 2-0 instead of 0-2 anyway lol.

I think the first thing for me is that, it's not just a preseason 2-0.....it's been a dominant 2-0 for our depth. I'm aware that the Cardinals are terrible. But, the same depth pieces also dominated the Seattle depth. So, I'm inclined to think that our depth is actually decent.

Barsham and Revel looked AWESOME. I think Milton solidified himself as the QB2. I can't wait to see our starting offense and starting defence play together. Who'd have thought that last year? What a difference an offseason and proper coaching can have!

All in all, well done to the coaches. I know it's vanilla, and I know it's preseason. But I'm delighted at how dominant we've looked the last two preseason games. It's encouraging to me.

Yep, another solid game by the backups against the Arizona backups. We still haven’t seen the Dallas Cowboys of opening night against the Giants in New York. But we have seen some good play by the young guys on the team. I honestly didn’t know Barnham could play like that. It was fun to watch.

You absolutely cannot get rid of Joe Milton. His ceiling is as high as they come and he keeps improving.

Hes too valuable to cut for nothing.

I didnt see the game...and it's good to hear you think Malik Davis secure #2RB position. But is Malik Davis a true #2 RB that can step up and take the hits and stay healthy if Williams goes down... Just curious if you think the Cowboys are in the trade market for a RB#2 or not....Personally, I think Malik Davis is a good #3 as I view RB#2 as someone that can step up for 17games if Williams get hurts.

He averaged 4.6 yards per carry last year in a reserve role. I think this offense suits his running style and have no problem with him as the primary backup. If Williams gets hurt, I don't know if Davis can step up to replace him, but the same with any of our backs. At this point, I'd try to keep Mafah and Abanikanda on the practice squad, so that we have options.

Oh, well, maybe they should check Pete at RT. Maybe Cornelius at RG and Pete at RT next game? Plus, I'm keeping Pete over Shelton. At least Pete looks like he knows what he's doing lol.

Kuntz caught everything.

He dropped the first two thrown to him. That first one was a high fastball that Milton still throws now and again. The second one was on 4th down and it hit him in the hands and was a great pass. He did catch the next 2-3 passes thrown to him in the second have though.

i hope the receivers coach talks to Camden Brown about ball security. It was only a lucky bounce that kept his huge play from being a turnover.
