Stock up/down

Jesse ran a 4.65 40

Cam runs a 4.61 40

Both got dragged down on long runs.
And? So what.
Anquan Boldin ran a 4.7 he was an excellent WR. Your fixation with underwear speed is very odd. You compared Barham to Marist, this fixation is super weird.

Edit:

  • Davante Adams: 4.56 seconds
  • DeAndre Hopkins: 4.57 seconds
  • Mike Evans: 4.53 seconds
  • Anquan Boldin: 4.71 seconds (even slower, notable physical star)
  • Larry Fitzgerald: 4.63 seconds (elite Hall of Fame career)
  • Jerry Rice: 4.71 seconds (widely considered the greatest WR ever)
  • Cooper Kupp: 4.62 seconds (Triple Crown winner)
  • Keenan Allen: 4.71 seconds
  • Chad Johnson (OchoCinco): 4.57 seconds
  • Jarvis Landry: 4.65 to 4.77 seconds

Folks need to realize the coaching staff loves Luepke.

He’s a Swiss Army knife that serves as a lead blocker, short yardage back, reliable pass catcher, and key special teams contributor.

Last year, he played more offensive snaps than Blue, Malik Davis, and Mafah combined, not to mention he played on 50% of the teams total special teams snaps.
Fans want to cut Lupe so that Davis will have a spot.

Same with Turp. Give Cam a spot.

If he had speed…..

If he had speed, what?

He’d have more that 38.5 yards per catch last night?

I think the team is fine with a 38.5 average from Brown.

Your semi obsession with the timed speed in the 40 yard dash at the combine is a little weird. Particularly since you completely ignore the fact that Brown had the fastest 10 yard split of any WR at the combine.

It makes you look like an uninformed fan.

That insanely quick get off helps him coming off the line and when he gears down to make cuts in route, and it just might matter more than his timed 40 speed.

What matters more than all of that though, is how he plays WR. Lighting up DB’s, making acrobatic catches and doing it in every practice and every game he’s played since coming to Dallas is what is really important to evaluate.

It is strange to say a guy can’t be a good WR in the NFL because of his speed on a track in back in March… when he is showing every day that he is actually good at playing WR in the NFL.

You should pay more attention to what your eyes are telling you instead of a timed speed someone ran in track shorts. How they play the game trumps everything else.

I’ve been thinking the same thing.

If he’s that bad and needs that much work before he’s NFL ready, maybe you do risk exposing him to waivers to get him to the practice squad?
The risk would be very low.

...my eyes said, Blue/Mafah should be backs 2/3.

Kunts (TE) had impressive night, but you know could be an anomaly. Like Barron, three picks now zippo.

Milton looking like QB2. Lots Jags everywhere, with occasion splashes.

Not sold on Williams yet, but could be serviceable as rotation piece.

#6 WR looks like keeper. (forgot the name)
Your eyes lied.

I think once he learns some of the finer nuances, he could really be dangerous with that split time. It's not quite the same, but it's somewhat comparable to Miles Austin to me. Austin had explosive speed and once he learned to harness it, he became a top-notch NFL receiver. I think Austin had a longer way to go than Brown does now. He earned his way in as a kick returner before developing as a receiver. Those guys who can explode out of their routes are hard to cover. You can make up ground on them, but they can create enough separation out of their breaks to get open. The fact that he's so good at high-pointing the ball adds another dimension to his game. Austin wasn't particularly good at jump balls.

Now, I'm not saying that he'll ever be Austin at the top of his game. It's up to him to take that explosiveness and learn to use it with crisp breaks out of his cuts. He's already showing some things that could make him tough to cover, but to get away from the NFL's best, he's got to make full use of that split time.

Same. If they lose someone in order to keep him, at least use Lupke in the offense. I realize he plays ST but I can’t use that as a reason to keep someone around. If you can start on the 22, you can figure out ST.

Again, it’s not anti-Lupke, but he seemed like something that MM had going, and he is long gone. Why they extended him I have no idea, but it was just after the Micah trade so I guess Jerry had money to spend. I think he was guaranteed five million, and there’s no way to justify that. Hey I’d love to see a FB in the offense, but it’s not gonna happen, and we are finally in a position where there is more talent (depth wise at least) than chairs when the music stops.

I have no real strong opinion on him.
Will note that he does offer versatility. Could be a RB-not ideal but in a pinch. Can play FB, halfback and even lineup as a T.E.
If his ST play is still solid, I could see him making another year as it's not like our depth at RB/TE is busting at the seams.
Seems to have solid hands in the passing game too, so just not a plodder out there with stone hands.

But, while is isn't slow, he isn't NFL quick and he's not a Mike Alstott punishing RB either. So, a jack of all trades, but just NFL average at everything?

I dont think he is as slow as you want to make it. The guy chasing him #34 Oliver ran a 4.5 40 and didn't really gain much if any ground on Brown. Brown is a 4.55-4.6 guy. He isn't a burner by any means, but he gets open...that is more important than pure speed.
Emmitt and Michael were both 4.52-4.6 guys. Speed ain't everything.

From a LandryHat article I read this morning…

Pass protection remains a massive concern for Shelton. Across 25 pass-blocking snaps, he surrendered four pressures, two hurries, and a sack. The result? A 3.0 pass-blocking grade from PFF. Not 30.0, which would still be terrible -- 3.0.

This comes after Shelton allowed three pressures, a hurry, and two quarterback hits at right tackle against the Seahawks. Moving to the left side did absolutely nothing.

Here's a look at where Shelton's numbers stack up among OTs this preseason who've logged at least 30 blocking snaps:

Category
Rank
Pressures allowed: 7
116 out of 117
QB hits: 3
117 out of 117 (tied for last)
Hurries: 3
T-93rd out of 117
Pass-blocking grade: 13.5
114 out of 117

Yeah I’d agree. I just hope if they keep him and end up losing someone with a future upside to do so, they at least have a role for him other than ST and RB4.

The extension was just one of those Jerry whimsical moments.

..obviously Shelton will be first ballot cut bait when Monday comes.

Thats ok, we're trying to build a winning team here.

You had me at Barham.

My gosh, did we just get him and Downs in the same draft? They might be the best defensive players in the entire draft.
We also got Lawrence and Overton in same draft. Solid looking draft so far

Now you know why he was a 4th round pick.

If he didn't need a year to develop and get stronger, he would have been a early day 2 pick.

Izzy and Mafah would clear waivers. Maybe not Blue.
Right. A team would pick up Blue for his speed alone.

A team like KC would take him. As thy seem to use a speedy RB or WR as an outlet pass, safety valve type play, or a check down better than most teams.

Get Blue in open space like that, and he can be dangerous.

Mind you I only watched the first half:

Up:

Barham- he’s the MLB we need. Move Agent Zero back to WLB where he belongs and let’s roll.

Milton - Love his development. Enjoy the practice squad Howell.

Mingo- He is making the team. Whenever he gets good QB play he shows out. And he’s a beast on ST. Do we keep 6 or try to sneak Brown onto the PS or fake an injury to stash him?

Thomas- from my untrained eyes he looked much better on the right side. I wouldn’t be upset if he took Steele’s job. At least there is potential upside.

Davis - the clear RB 2. I think we go light and just keep him and Williams (and Hunter). Try to get Blue/Mafah/Izzy onto the PS.

Revel - future star

Down:

A few rookies need a redshirt year. Shelton and Moore and Smith.

Blue - see above. Just don’t see him making the 53.

Again, I only watched the first half.
Thomas still looks slow to me. Right side or left side. I worry how he'll do against starting edge rushers. I am sticking to my thought he should move inside. I am surprised the moved Cornelius inside. I thought he showed potential at RT last year.

RB is a real dilemma. They all look about the same. Malik always looks good when they play him. I think they should keep Malik, Blue, Luepke and Williams. But It would hurt to cut Mahaf who is a better backup for Williams. I think Blue has a higher upside than Davis, but he needs to peak now. RBs don't last that long.

I am not sold on Revel. He looks stiff to me.

I think the other battle is going to be on the Edge. Land looks better to me than Sam Williams. Tyrus Wheat looks better than Williams too. I am rooting for Sam but he does not look like the rookie Sam Williams.

He’s the slowest WR.

Would have had a TD if he hadn’t been dragged down by that S, who runs a 4.5 on a good day.

He’s Jesse Holley.
