One issue I have with our running game!

fyi, Schotty addressed this in the postgame press conference – said we were trying not to show much, so the runs we are all inside...he was explaining how Blue actually did better than his stats suggest.
Yes last year he was earning trust this year he will get a lot more of his traditional runs and the reason they're running between the tackles right now is not just to trick the defense getting him used to the contact getting him in more physical and mental reps to be handling that type of load when it comes to the regular season we don't want to see him running between the A and B gap much unless it's a trick play where he been running the outside all game or one game and then the next game you hit him with a delayed draw up the middle for 50 or A TD because that's what you need to do is you need eye candy you need to play with the defense but I would like to see Blue get more runs to the outside...

This has been my issue for years since we had Pollard. Does anyone else feel that we don't utilize enough runs to the outside, vs continued runs up the middle with our more quicker running backs?? I know you can't run every play with a toss play to get the back out in space, but we don't seem to even think about it. I'd like to see them get a guy like Blue out on a RB toss run play and see his speed. With that said he has to have patience to set up his blocks and not just run right through. Does anyone else feel that we don't run enough to the outside? Please give your input
As long as they score 30+ pts a game, I don’t care how they do it. Did you watch last year? Running game was a huge part of the offense just by having the threat of being able to run. Nothing to get you all tied up in knots.

Yeah ,

we're not doing that again I would appreciate not scoring 30 points a game shortening games running more and having an efficient pass game in a better red zone But I take winning games with 21 points this year that would be very very big for me because having to score 30 points a game that was so last year and we only won seven games..

I get your point but I want to make sure I remind you we don't want that kind of offense is there if we need it you know the bullets are in the gun but I prefer not having to use them all.. Playoff football is about strong run game efficient offense great defense and the coaching staff calling the right plays at the right time and not being out coached all the time...

Like to change the mindset this team's been in for a couple of decades now with the quarterbacks that constantly get criticized in here because that is what it's expected them and we have to outscore the opponents by a large score or they're going to lose games against good teams and that has to change...

The data doesn't really exist.

Because we have no idea how often an outside run was called that the running back took inside due to blocking or the defensive alignment, and vice versa. The NFL will simply track it as a run up the middle, to the left, or to the right without context.

I think it's as simple as Blue and Mafah being jag RBs.

The Cowboys should get a 3rd RB to go with Williams and Davis when final NFL team roster cut downs are made. I'm fairly confident they can find an upgrade.

I was thinking the exact same thing while watching them give the ball to Blue up the middle.

It's like why don't you pitch this thing out to him like Roger used to do with Tony dorsett.

Granted they're both Hall of famers and probably practice that exchange so it was infallible.

Maybe with today's rules and players that's just too complex

If you want to run outside you needs two things. First, speed. The RB has to beat the LBs to the outside. Second, you need WRs, TEs and OTs who can block well. If they can't get that outside edge sealed no RB is going to run well outside. This has been a problem for Dallas since Dez left.

I take winning games with 21 points this year
The average is 23 \ game. You aren't going to win a lot with 21 \ game unless your D is well above average or you have some fluky games.

If teams average 11-13 possessions \ game and you are an above average offense, you should be scoring on 40% or more of those possessions. The Rams scored on 49.6% of their possessions last year. If you keep your TD efficiency high, there really isn't any reason for a top offense not to hit 26+ points consistently. In short, I think the expectations for above average offenses should be higher than most people seem to have them currently.

The underlined part is key for us. Far too often we settle for FG. We scored TD's on 28.8% with total scoring on ~48% of our possessions. Shift that TD % higher and they become the top scoring team in the league not a top 5 unit. The team has been assembled, they need to maximize their execution. That should be the expectation IMO.

Very well said.

I agree. Our top two receivers aren't great blockers especially CD (not sure how much their heart is in it) but our other receivers seem to be much more inclined \ able. Perhaps our outside runs should be mostly called when we have some of them on the field. Same for bubble screens. We let the receiver get tackled before he has a chance to do anything.

Noah Brown was a decent blocker as a WR. I am hoping Flournoy can develop into a better blocker. Ferguson is not great blocking and Schoonomaker, for a guy do doesn't have many catches is only average.

Great comment. I also think WHEN you score matters. We must score early and control clock. Offense does not play defense but it can surely help them.

yes Brown was. maybe I'm misremembering but I thought Flournoy was pretty good last year. Agree on the TE's, so many times the play has been there if they just get a better block. I believe it was Mingo who was blocking quite well during the preseason games.

My opinion is they are unwilling. It really hurts too. If anyone wants to see how it's done, watch Ohio State. I don't believe you can play WR there without showing some blocks.

To be able to run off the edge you need speed but you also need to be able to run between the tackles to keep teams honest. Pollard could do both

Yeah, I'd like to see more of it. The data doesn't exist—hard to believe in this day and age, but it seems like the vast majority of run are between the tackles, and when you draft someone like Blue you'd think you'd have plans to utilize more tosses and the like. But even if not, they seem to be emphasizing their desire to reestablish the screen game so, if effective, that would do the same kind of thing, in a way.
That needs work too our screen game has been bad for years
