Anybody else dissapointed in Sam Willams?

I am very disappointed. I thought this year, with a year behind him since his injury, he would show some signs of his talent as a rookie but I haven't seen anything. Playing against scrubs he has had no impact and he looks to be behind Wheat and Land in my opinion.

Playing when he did means absolutely nothing.

In the 2 preseason games he has played 33 snaps and had 6 tackles and 1 sack.

He is playing better than most think. Past disappointments cloud opinions about him. Which is understandable. The encouraging part is the trajectory. Williams went from essentially invisible against Seattle to one of Dallas' better defensive performers against Arizona. His sack showed the explosiveness that made him a second-round pick in 2022. You better believe CP noticed.

The concern is consistency. Always been a thing with him. Williams is entering a critical year: Dallas re-signed him to a one-year deal in March after he produced only one sack in 17 regular-season games in 2025. He's competing for a meaningful role in a defensive front that has added veteran pass-rush competition, so splash plays matter.

Grade: B

Pass rush: B+
Run defense: C
Disruption: B+
Consistency: C+
Roster outlook: Improving

I'd say Arizona materially helped Williams' roster case. He's still not at the point where I'd call him a locked-in difference-maker, but the Week 2 performance is evidence that the athleticism and pass-rush ability are still there.

The key thing I'd watch in the Saints preseason finale is whether he can win repeatedly rather than just produce one sack. If Williams stacks another disruptive performance on top of Arizona, I'd possibly move him into the B+ grade.

Look him playing a lot of preseason and when he's coming into this game so usually a telltale sign of coaching staff telling him he needs to get it in gear because he's on the bubble however it works out though fans being all triggered if he makes their roster just like there's people out there really angry that we may not be able to keep Julius Woods and possibly some others their fan favorites and that somehow Bell is going to make this team because they say he's not only one of their better special teams players but he can actually be a very viable backup in an insurance policy because of his experience on the field he actually can play on defense not just the special teams ace..

You have to trust that the coaching Staffs are gonna get it right and there's nothing we can do about it.. No I know you all got triggered when Flournoy or I got put on the practice squad and then released and brought back and you know what that might happen to Brown it might happen to some other pet cats around here let the coaches in the front office do what they do best We're not gonna get our way all the time..

Actually I think it does I think that they are sending him a message that they need to see more and they wanna see more effort Guys like him if they were thinking he had a bigger role to play he wouldn't have been in late in these preseason games so yes I'm with the people that this is a message being sent from the coaching staff give more effort play smarter you're on the bubble let's see what you got..

They still need t suit up so many players even for a PS game.

I seen 2 different numbers. They had as many as 34 players not play. 26 were designated not playing from the start.

Or they wanted to see their 3rd and 4th team players on how they did against another teams 2nd and 3rd string players.

Definite under achiever.
His full career body of work definitely does not match the so called potential coming out of Ole Miss in the 2nd round. And the mental gaffes over the years have only added to my negative opinion of him.
BUT just maybe he can finally master his one trick pony speed rush and have an impactful season.
I have my doubts, but fingers crossed regardless.

I have been disappointed in him for 3 years and running. his head is not screwed on right.

if we can trade him for a 6th. do it.
I just think he’s limited. He’s a guy who was raw when we got him. He’s had a new DC essentially every year and has to battle injuries. We screwed up his development. This isn’t an excuse this is just the nfl. Some can handle it some can’t. I never saw him in college I remember the hype he had but I read his story and yeah that guy was raw he literally just started playing football when we got him. Probably should’ve passed on that in the second.
