Schottenheimer Culture

I had low expectations for Schotty last year, however he impressed me with what he did in 2025. How he handled the team.

This year though, I really like what I’ve seen from the team. Hiring the offensive (last year) and defensive staffs has me thrilled. That is how I’ve been wanting the coaches to be hired (head coach picking) since Jimmy left.

It finally happened.

It is easy to tell when a group of coaches has the team moving in the right direction, and this team is.

Will it show up in the W/L column? I think so, but we have to see it. But overall it is the most hope I’ve had since Parcells, for sure.

I like what Schotty has done as HC for the most part. He deserves to have time to try and fix what has clearly been a soft culture for years. I certainly hope he will be successful.

But for this upcoming season, training camp and two ps games are not yet a truly accurate measure of our culture and future success.

A team’s Culture is ultimately measured by the adversity they will face.

Honestly, there is little to no adversity facing an NFL team in TC or PS games. Adversity hits when an injury happens, the team blows a game they shouldn’t, or faces any other unforeseen challenge that comes along.

I want this culture to get turned around. But IMO, it’s too early to tell if it has been. Once the real bullets start to fly, we will begin to see.

Shotty was terrific last year.

There is no "scheme" that could have helped that band of misfits on defense last year. It looked similar the year before with Micah, too.

They finally started addressing this when they signed Quinnin Williams. It's been much better since.
Shotty is the HC.

He let Eber call that jacked up Cover 3 zone with off coverage all season.

Insane.

This could be a few things.

1) Shotty was too scared of Eber to take over the D. He tried but Eber told him to stay in his lane.

2) Shotty tried to take over the D but Jerry overruled.

3) Shotty didn’t do anything.

Some of us also want to wait until the cowboys actually win more games than they lose under him before we declare he’s a good coach.

I like the direction they seem to be heading. But until results happen. It’s just talk.
I get that but Jerry had the worst defensive coordinator is sabotaged him the last minute trade of his best defensive player right before the season started. That's going to get any rookie coach off the bad start I think you will agree.

Schotty has grown on me throughout his year as HC, Building culture. Communication. Offensive tweaks implementing more motion and a strong running game. Building a stout coaching staff despite Jerry forcing Eberflus on him and hiring a so-so special teams coach.

I'm hoping he succeeds and gets Dallas wins this regular season and in the playoffs.
Same. I didn’t like the hire, but he has changed my mind after his first year.

How does an offensive coordinator / Head Coach take over a defense?

Jimmy sat Michael Irvin for a series one time. When he missed the team flight.
I imagine if a lesser player missed the team flight, Jimmy wouldn't allow him back in the locker room. Missing curfew (Lamb and Pickens) is so pervasive in the NFL, I don't think Jimmy sits Irvin for that.

We must not forget winning fixes a lot of issues and Jimmy's Cowboys were definitely winners. I don't think Shotty was wrong to sit Lamb and Perkins.
