Schottenheimer Culture

I think he learned from his dad
Agree 100%..........he's often mentions the influence his dad had. He literally spent his entire life around professional football. You can see some of Marty's traits.......discipline and communication. According to Cooper Rush, communication is his biggest strength. Players know where they stand.

It it is refreshing to see a good hire. Guy been around football his whole life. Been a while since I been excited for this team

It seems people have complained and griped about the Cowboys "Culture" for the last 10-15 years. What I am seeing with Schotty and now Parker, and add in the fact that everyone keeps saying how different things feel around here...For once I think they may actually be Changing the Cowboys culture. Time will tell of course, but this does not feel like our old country club atmosphere.

Schotty has grown on me throughout his year as HC, Building culture. Communication. Offensive tweaks implementing more motion and a strong running game. Building a stout coaching staff despite Jerry forcing Eberflus on him and hiring a so-so special teams coach.

I'm hoping he succeeds and gets Dallas wins this regular season and in the playoffs.

7-9-1 but he should be praised because he benched two players for a series last year against a bad team?

As someone who likes Schottenheimer the logic here is quite the stretch. Jason Garrett was considered a culture guy. McCarthy was praised for his toughness culture and actually violated the contact rules in training camp.

Until the wins start racking up this culture talk is just that. Lots of valid reason to be optimistic this year…moreso because of the talent upgrades though.

You will be able to tell that Schottenheimer is succeeding by how quick Jerry takes over the narrative and shifts the focus to how he personally built the team.

The Cowboys went 7-9-1last season so he's laying low for now but just you wait.

You could see he was settled by the tone last year when he sat Pickens and Lamb against Raiders last year. This year team is serious and focused. Feel like this staff is coaching without Jones meddling
Wait, so guys missing curfew while hanging out at a casino the night before a game with rumors that one of them may have been throwing up sit out 3 plays and that is setting the tone from a culture perspective? Or is it you are a great player so you can do whatever you want. I took that as a completely hypocritical punishment based on what this team preached all offseason.

True but neither was to talk Jerry into making the kind of changes we have seen this offseason, especially on the defensive side. Also, the different culture now is a multitude of high-level defensive players with strong leadership skills vs one or two players ( Parsons and Diggs ). I def think the culture is stronger and necessary for getting through the tough parts of the season and playoffs.

Yet some (many here) were calling him the worst hire among his coaching class

I mean to be fair on paper he was. Long time nfl guy never given a hc spot. Typical Jerry hire. Meanwhile Ben Johnson, vrabel, Pete Carroll all proven guys- the first 2 doing an amazing job and the “unknown” liam coen did amazing.

7 coaches hired that year, as of now schotty is at best 4th on the list (Ben Johnson, vrabel, coen all got their team in the playoffs and or on deep runs ) I’m a big fan of his and I wanted Glenn over him but some perspective is due here.

Also, have to be remember he’s done nothing this year…..yet. It feels different - I’m old enough to remember things feeling different but same results

Other years they would never sit

I think it was due to him not being the next hot candidate. Ben Johnson was out there and he was the biggest one. However, while Ben has done well, I am not a fan of his overly cockiness. I like the way Shotty handles himself better. It is not like Shotty was never considered head coaching material at one time and in fact turned down the Bills for an interview for a head coaching position because he didn't feel he was ready. Gotta respect that. Winning and losing changes everything tho so I hope this is a good year for him.
