Are Cowboys are the best team in the NFC East right now?

I have doubts about Lemon and he only recently came back from an injury.

They also spent some resources on the OL, given the injuries they had last year so it will be interesting to see how their OL shapes up this year. On paper, it should be one of the best again but last year they really had their issues as injuries set in and those guys aren't getting younger.

I feel their health of their OL is their key for success.

AJ Brown was the engine of the entire offense because he commanded double teams. Everything else is now harder because of that. Without commanding 2-high looks, the OL is going to be a lot worse running into negative fronts all the time. Saquon is was pretty pedestrian in making something out of nothing last year (30th RYOE), and now they're going to have fewer advantageous looks in the run game.

You don't know ball if that isn't glaringly obvious to you.

On top of that, they installed an OC who wants to do things (under center, mid-field throws) that the QB doesn't like.

That's not hopium lol

None of us have Lombardis. It's fine to have different opinions. But I don't think insulintg other people's acumen based on them is cool.

And I am saying this as someone who's very pedestrian about ALL things NFL. Eagles have proven to overcome some adversities...at least better than us.

Remains to be seen, don't you think?
 
Eagles are going to have a top five defense and have an entirely new offense built to help Hurts and the o-line.

Their offense will show more under center play, much more motion and play action, and a McVay/Shanahan type of strategy.

I know Cowboy fans took delight in their stumbling finish in 2025 but they have one of the best front offices in the league, arguably the best defensive coordinator in the league and bigtime talent. They didn’t just sit there and let the rot settle in.

I wish we had them earlier in the season because it might take three or four games for the offense to start really clicking.

Bottom line is that while the Cowboys should be better than last year, the Eagles will be too.

I hate having Howie and Lurie in the division. They make Jerry and Stephen look like the mediocre football execs that they are.

Not carefully. I literally said the same thing he did.

Of course it remains to be seen. But it is not a mystery that offenses are better when they have WRs who can command double teams.

How is that offense supposed to help Hurts? Those things are antithetical to what he is good at.

They have $73m in dead money after $85m in dead money last year, no depth, and the roster did not improve at any position. I don't understand the obsession with Howie. They'll be fine if they stay entirely healthy...like every other good team.

The Eagles' path to improving is just hoping that a worse roster than the one that cratered last year turns it around for...reasons? We're talking about an organization that is going to move on from HC and QB after this season if the OC (who, mind you, hasn't been an OC before) doesn't drastically turn things around.

Offense
  1. Completely new offense. Kevin Petullo was their Eberflus. Mannion is a Shanahan/McVay player turned coach and while he lacks the 12 year grind of Parker to get to where he is, he’s still seen as a hot young star. It will be a truly modern offense built to combat the new defenses proliferating through the league.
  2. Offensive Culture - this ties into Petullo but also Brown. The eagles tried to downplay it but Brown was not a good teammate, particularly toward Hurts. Jalen created many of his own problems by being stoic, or even sullen, but Brown fed the fire publicly and the offense was constantly asked about it by the media. I saw a few comments in this thread about Hurts sucking. Don’t believe the doubts spread by the biased. Real actual insider comments from players on the team point to a focused, intense and upbeat Hurts.
  3. Running game - Barkley is going to bounce back. Lane Johnson missed half the season and Dickerson was hurt all year. Jurgens was hurt all year. Barkley was also coming off an insane workload in 2024 where he had 350 carries, you could see him dragging by December. He had 280 last year. The new offense is focused on helping Barkley and the rushing offense. It’s a priority of the new design.
Defense
  1. Bigtime upgrades in defensive talent. We tend to be insular and focus on what the Cowboys are doing and assume the rest of rhe league is standing still or regressing. The Eagles have taken a very, very good defense and made it better. They look to have made significant improvements at CB and added Grennard at edge. Their entire defense up the middle is great. From DT to LB, we can’t touch it. Carter being healthy is adding an all-pro right up front.
  2. Continuing with the defense, they have top 3 DTs, top 3 LB, top 5 secondary, The talent is scary. We are excited about coaching changes and the addition of some unproven defensive rookies and talk about a full season of Quennin Williams as our best player. The Eagles have five Quenkin Williams level players on defense. There’s not a single defensive potion group we have that’s better than theirs and you can assume Downs and Barham have great seasons and it will still be true
  3. Coaching. We have Parker. They have Fangio. One thing about Fangio is that despite being old he is relentless at making changes to he defense. He never settles and never compromises what he thinks should he done as a concession to the talent. They are so talented and he’s so good that they could run their base defense 80% of the time, playing havoc with offenses who can’t see what’s coming. If Parker is Neo in the first Matrix movie, then Fangio is Morpheus

I think it's you that should read more carefully.

But anyway...we don't know who's gonna command what coverage just yet.

And I agree...when Lamb or Pickens gets double coverage, the other, or Flo...benefits. I suppose we should focus on our agreement about THAT!
