Nobody makes the playoffs as much as the Cowboys

From 1966-1995 the Cowboys went to 17 championship games including 2 NFL title games and 8 Super Bowls .

Last 30 … none of the above .

That’s what really separates the 2 eras or time frames .

In that era we basically went to Championship games more often than we go to playoffs this era. Wow!!
Yes, I am coming to the realization that I will probably never see the cowboys win another sb
Most likely will never even see a sb appearance.
As long as we insist on poor GMs running this team we are at too much of a competitive disadvantage.
But, I am thankful for the many great memories.

And that is the real reason why they are worth 15 & a half billion. They would be worth more if Jerry had gotten the hell out of the way and the team won another SB somewhere along the way.
No question. Jerry did make some good business decisions to help the Cowboys and the NFL be more profitable. That is why he’s in the HOF.

But Jerry bought Americas Team, not the Browns.

Yes, the Cowboys were losing money in the 80s when he bought the team. But again, he bought a brand that was already the shiniest coin in the NFL. This is one of the most loyal fan bases in the country.

I just get annoyed when anyone acts like Jerry made the Cowboys great. He certainly deserves some credit. But the team had already won 20 playoff games before he got here.

Depends on your age. If you are as old as me then it’s entirely possible we won’t . But if you can outlive Jethro and maybe Stephen too our chances will increase .

The Cowboys playoff berth stats are heavily front-loaded. Not so much on the backend. I’m fortunate to have experienced most of the frontend. I feel for those fans trapped in the desert.

Cowboys negative cash flow at the time was completely overblown. That was the norm back then as many NFL teams didn’t generate positive cash flows while their net worth continued increasing .

A franchise that while having a neg cash flow of about a million a month still increased value in 5 years Bum Bright owned them from 84 million to 140 million.

SOME PERSPECTIVE:
  • Between 1960-1988 the Cowboys made the playoffs 18 times in 29 years, winning 20 playoff games, which meant they made the playoffs 62% of their time before Jerry owned the Cowboys.
  • That means the Cowboys made the playoffs 18 times before Jerry bought the team and
  • The Cowboys also won 20 of their 36 playoff wins before Jerry.
  • In the Jerry era- 1989-2025, the Cowboys made the playoffs 18 times in 38 years. Under Jerry the team has won 16 playoff games in 38 seasons, and only 5 since their last SB in 1995.
  • In the Jones era, the Cowboys have made the playoffs 18 times out of 38 seasons- about 47% of their time.
The Cowboys were Americas Team a long time before Cowboys fans had ever heard the name Jerry Jones.
That's what I keep saying. Jerry bought a storied franchise with a large fanbase. He did not buy the S.D. Chargers. Nobody would care about JJ if he did. Tex Schramm and Tom Landry created America's team. And if it wasn't for Jimmy and the titles he won in the 90's the Cowboys would be irrelevant today.

Give us another 20-30 years of this crap and we could still be irrelevant.

Fans of this era don’t get why us old farts still follow the Cowboys cause they’ve never seen them win anything.

Wait till we are all gone without more success with no one alive witnessing Cowboys winning a championship.

Over a 32-year period, the average NFL team will go to the playoffs 14 times. They will play in the divisional round 8 times and the conference championship game 4 times. They will go to 2 Super Bowls.

I became a fan in 1970. For the first 32 seasons as a fan, 1970-2001, the Cowboys went to the playoffs 22 times. They played in the divisional round 19 times. They played in the conference championship game 14 times. They went to 8 Super Bowls.

The Cowboys were so good that even the past 25 seasons of mediocrity can't dilute their place in history.

Dallas has perfected the one and done. Top heavy teams with paper thin depth who fold at the first sight of adversity.
