Have we become so used to Jerry that anytime he does bare minimum we praise him?

If the Dline can collapse the pocket, it is much easier for the DE/OLB to get to home to the QB.

This is why we are willing to keep Steele at RT he can get beat to the outside and Dak can step up in the pocket comfortably with Smith/Bebee/Booker - plus Ferguson will babysit Steele frequently, again.

Exactly, and that's what I'm trying to say to Lou. If our front 3 can clog up the middle and push the pocket, the QB can't step up. He's forced to either roll out into the hands of the OLBs like Von Miller or Eze or Justin Houston. Or, if he stays where he is without getting the ball out, he gets taken down by either Overshown, Von Miller, Barham, Williams, or Barham. If he does manage to get the ball out, chances are, Downs and Bland will pick it off.

I don't really get what you're saying.

QBs don't "roll out into the linebackers."

I don't know if you're talking about run or pass d.

Pass D. Typically, when a QB feels pressure, they have to step up in the pocket if it's coming from the outside. If the pressure is coming from up the middle, then they have to move left or right, which would be where Von Miller or Justin Houston would be waiting.

Ok but that has nothing to do with linebackers.

Yes it does. For thing, the linebackers job would easier. For another, they have one less blocker to beat. If we had Quinnen and Clark with Parsons here, they would have basically fed Parsons the QB and kept the worst of the blocks off of Parsons. Now, what we have, is the ability to let the linebackers have more clean rush lanes to the QB. And the QB is basically a sitting duck.

Are you calling Edges linebackers?

Overshown and Houston/Eze don't play the same position.

In the 3-4 yes, they're OLBs. We are running basically a 3-4 this year. If we were running a 4-3, then having Quinnen and Clark would still have been great because the 3 linebackers would have had all kinds of room. Frankly, I thought Parsons would have been much more successful if we had run a 3-4 with his skill set. Now that we're basically, as I understand it, changing to more of a 3-4/nickel style, I think having the defence the way they are actually works better for us. We don't really have "edges" the way we did with Quinn. Our "edges" this year are probably going to be Bullard and Overton. So, that's where Gary, Justin Houston, Barham, and Von Miller are going to benefit.

This time, THIS TIME it will be different under Jerry's leadership.

Of the players named here, Quinnen and Clark are DTs (A-B gap), Bullard and Overton are DEs (B-C gap), Gary, Houston, and Miller are your edges. Barham and Overshown play ILB.

The edge distinction isn't dependent on formation.

Yeah, and I think that should be great for us. Bullard, Quinnen, and Overton as your 3 dline, Von/Houston and Gary/EZE at OLB, and Barham and Overshown at ILB is a much better front 7 than we've had in a while. The point is, Quinnen or Clark (when he gives Quinnen a rest) clogging up the middle should help Bullard and Overton with their assignments. Meanwhile, our LBs should have free reign at the QB. Its what I've wanted on our defence for years. We hadn't had the beef on our dline to allow our LBs to be successful before. Now we do.

It's called team defense vs hero ball with Parsons who could be doubled and taken out of the game.

Just like we neutralized him in the GB game with a zero yard sack.

Exactly, and now we can basically play team defence and force the QB to basically be a sitting duck. We should get our offense a lot more short fields with the way this defence is being assembled. Doesn't mean we won't get scored on occasionally, but, if they stay healthy and all goes to plan, I think our offense will have more short fields than they've had in a whole....and there is a good chance our defence gets on the score sheet as well. We had hero ball helping Bland before. Imagine the pick 6s he can get if the QB is basically a sitting duck.

Ok but that still has nothing to do with linebackers.

This is also a really stupid point, because that sack was one of the most significant plays of the entire game.

Idk this just isn't realistic.

You're going to be in nickel more often than not, and that is going to be Eze - Clark - QW - Gary with Overshown - Winters behind them.

They'll be in a 3-4 "base" something like 30% of plays.

Even in the nickel, its beneficial for the defence to have beef up the middle. That's still a better front 7 than we've had in a while. If Parsons that the dline we do now while he was here, he probably doesn't wear down late in the season.

I mean sure. It's just less about beef than it is about talent. QW is only like 305.

You're wasting QW if he's just eating doubles.

Still, Quinnen and Clark should be able to help us be more physical up at the NT spot. That's all I'm trying to say. That physicality up the middle should help our edges and linebackers get after the QB much more easily. If done right, our offense will probably have more short fields than they have in years past. The thing that was interesting was, under Quinn, it seemed like they were built more to play from the front. When we had a lead, the defence could just feast on the QB. Then with Eberflus, we couldn't play with either lol. Now, this team looks to be able to play both from the front and if behind. I think that's the biggest difference. I think that should really help the offense. If it goes well, and it'll probably take a little bit to get in gear, I think both sides are going to feed each other.

I don’t even know what you’re harping on about. I haven’t seen anyone say anything like you’re saying. The argument is they had a competent offseason. You initially used bare minimum. No one even gives Jerry props for it like me and Asthma just said we don’t even think it’s Jerry. You’re disgruntled at fans that I don’t even think exist. What Rambo and Rockport? Ok? The argument is the Cowboys are moving different than they have in years and it’s competent. No one is confusing Jerry with Howie.

It’s like some of you fans want to temper expectations. Why? I don’t know. At the end of the day I follow what the league is doing just like you said you do. Cowboys had a solid offseason. In their division I’d say they had a better offseason than anyone. Your argument for that was some weird what Giants did 15 years ago lol. Weird.
LOL.

Lost all credibility there bub.
