Hahahah.

This is why I love preseason. In the last two weeks we had guys claiming he could win a bunch of games if Dak got hurt and would likely be in line for a starting job in the NFL down the road.
We had an entire thread with the premise that Milton could be like Tom Brady and come off the bench to take Dak’s starting job like Brady did to Drew Bledsoe.

This reaks of Schotty's goofy decision-making. He loves Howell and apparently that's his pet player. Dak's Will Grier if you will.

Screw ALL OF THAT. We need a guy with talent who can win games. Howell ain't that and never will be! This is franchise-crippling stupid. We could have at least gotten back the 5th round pick we gave up. Now, we just made another team better so we can 2 idiots with backwards visors on the sidelines.

Mark my words: Dak will get injured and Howell will suck...then what?

This is what SF gave up for Lance and people cry about a 4th!
  • 2021 1st-round pick — No. 12
  • 2022 1st-round pick
  • 2022 3rd-round pick
  • 2023 1st-round pick
I mean seriously lol. I just laugh at those guys. It was a 4th rounder lol. Probably would've taken Ryan Russesl or some DE who never starts here lol.

I've been watching Milton for a long time now.

I'm a Michigan fan and I saw him there. He can really WOW you but he always seems to fall off. It's why he was a late round (6th round) pick in the NFL draft and why we gave up a 5th to get him and a 7th back and are now releasing him.

I will say though, to me, it looked like it finally clicked here this preseason and I'm shocked to see him gone.

LOL, if anybody here knows me, I'm one of Dak's biggest detractors. Never played well once in a big game to date. He has his roster now, so this year is completely on him.

Why stress over backup quarterbacks? Guys that are 26 and still aren't starting are not to be worried about.
What are the odds that Dak survives the season? If you have already concluded that even a healthy Dak won't cut it...WHY would this be a good thing?!?

Reliable at being a JAG. He is no Cooper Rush. He absolutely sucks.
He is infinitely better than Rush.

Howell is athletic and can run, has a much stronger arm than Rush, and has experience taking a beating on a bad team and standing in there.

He played really well against Dallas. LOL

There are subtle indications that Jerry's ego is finally taking a back seat to common sense being whispered in his ear by trusted associates. Old age, and confrontation with mortality, can & do change a man.

The Jaydon Blue and Joe Milton releases would have been inconceivable ten years ago. Football decisions...not ones based on stubbornly sticking with a stock pick not performing.

I thought it was incredibly dumb at the time. Dude came out of North Dakota Podunk State, for heaven's sake. And his processing speed stunk. Is he Joe Milton's brother?

Clearing a roster space for Arch Manning. I see the plan..
The plan was for Milton to have a meteoric rise prompting Dak to waive his no trade clause and with @Yobwocs tireless promotion garner multiple picks in a trade. If we don't win the SuperBowl with Milton at the helm this year, we dangle him and again receive a nice haul. THEN we draft a QB next spring & are free to go all in given our resources.

I mean truthfully I don't think the results change from Howell to Milton. I just don't like what it says. They spent all offseason saying everyones job is up regardless of draft status or money.....Sam Williams get cuts and they prove that. But then they let Milton go who to me outplayed Howell in the preseason games. I get Howell might've looked better in the practices but that holds no weight to me. At the end of the day Shotty likes him and probably playing favorites.

You couldn’t get a pick for him? What a joke. Honestly Howell is fine as a backup but Milton had tons of potential. See what you can get

Man you don't know why they didn't do it yesterday you're just talking lol.
Well, then I suppose you have some far fetched conspiracy theory about it?

Them holding him becuse they didn’t know if they needed the 53rd spot is a reasonable assumption.

Whatever you’re cooking up is almost certainly not.

As to Milton vs Howell, whether one outplayed the other is debatable. We saw some preseason game action. The coaches saw both for months

I saw his tape he has some incredible tools. I understand why 9ers and Shanahan were arrogant enough to do it. I wouldn't have traded all of that though if he fell to me is one thing to trade all of that you had to be for sure he was can't miss and he wasn't.

Apparently they tried, but there were no takers, so they released him.

I mean, that's not even close. Howell is a top 5 backup in the NFL. And a low level starter w/ possible upside.

I'm going to be honest with you...I have no idea and quite frankly I don't know what they are doing. Its ok to admit that sometimes you don't know. More information will be released it won't take long. I'm sure by tommorow morning we will know.

I don't love it but I can see why they did it. They wanted the QB who has started more games and won a few (even if he has also lost a lot). If Milton was a few years younger then he would have been kept (or gotten more trade interest like Quinn Ewers). But at his age, he's not really the "future".

Even if Dak's play falls off a cliff, Jerry and Stephen won't replace him until it's about 2 years too late. Milton wouldn't have gotten a chance until he's 30...at the very earliest.
