If he has a problem, he needs to get help to fix it and I hope he does.
Still doesn't change what he did though.
I saw the video, he wasn't stupid drunk, just a good buzz. Living with pain myself, I know how tough it can be. I couldn't drink when I was working, so I'd take 10 or 12 Tylenol extra strength a day, to get through practice and games, probably worse than drinking. Never liked how pain killers made me feel, so when I retired and started working around the house, about 6 cold beers during the day, and a couple of double scotch on the rocks in the evening helped. The guys would come over and I'd drink at least a 24 pack plus the six I had during the day. Of course, I was at, 6'4" 330lbs.
Pain is a beech to deal with. Quit drinking almost 3 years ago when my daughter got engaged, didn't miss it, so I haven't started up again. Only down side is I had to give in and start taking some pain medication while I wait for my surgeries on my back, had minimal disc surgery yesterday. If it works, I'll have my rotator cuffs fixed and then my two knees replaced. That oxy helps, but I refuse to take it 4 times a day as prescribed, I learned to deal with it with only 2 a day.
I made a point not to drink and drive, not always easy and not saying I never didn't, but the point, pain is real. If you don't live with it, I hope you never do. Imagine standing up from a chair in front of 6 family members and falling to the ground because of the pain...pretty embarrassing. Lost 70 lbs since I retired, it help some.
