The Dallas Cowboys have created a little more than $19 million in salary-cap space by restructuring the contracts of three players, sources told ESPN.

Veteran defensive tackle Kenny Clark, cornerback DaRon Bland and tight end Jake Ferguson had their deals re-worked to give the Cowboys flexibility as the 2026 season begins or allow the club to carry over any unused space to 2027.

According to the NFL Players Association website, the Cowboys had roughly $14.2 million of cap space prior to the restructured contracts.

If the Cowboys want to make a significant trade before the deadline later this season, theoretically they would have the room to do so. Last year, the Cowboys added Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets with a trade-deadline deal.

This tweet acts like the Cowboys won't need money to pay out for certain incentives being reached on contracts, injury settlements for players through the next 18 weeks, and additional signings to the roster.

They can't burn all $30 million on one player and function throughout the season. This move was done to roll money over into 2027, as boring as it may sound.

You don’t need to spend it all just because you created it. Those things are built into all the contracts with any heft to them. Now we have the cash, and everyone who might think about a deal a month or two from now knows who to call.

Any of it that you don’t spend can be rolled into next year.
