Milton is back, but will the DC only use 2 qbs on gameday?

Maybe I'm wrong,

but I thought if you only have 2 qbs on the active roster and protect your 3rd qb on the ps that week, and elevated him on gameday, he could be the EM 3rd....

was I wrong?

So, are the DC taking a risk only bringing 2 on gameday? I guess they've done this before and i didn't notice.

thoughts?

The NFL Emergency Third-Quarterback Rule allows teams to dress a third quarterback on game day without using one of their standard active roster spots [0.13].

How the Rule Works
    • Roster Status: The emergency third quarterback must be on the team's regular 53-man roster, not a practice squad elevation.
    • Game-Day Activation: A team must have two active quarterbacks on its game-day active list to use the rule. The third quarterback can then serve as an extra, inactive-until-needed player.
    • Entry Triggers: The emergency quarterback can only enter the game if both the first-string and second-string quarterbacks are injured or disqualified (ejected)
Well, you listed the rule

He must be on the 53. No, PS elevated players are eligible

If just Dak goes down it's over.

Get ready for 2027.
We're talking about maybe a few games, handful of games like 2022, of course, if he's down for the whole season. But come on, Sam Howell with this group if the defense is improved. You never know Nick Foles won a damn Super Bowl. I know it's not the same, but in a in a way it is, there's already a precedent set..

But in this game, we're particularly talking about in a game if you lose two quarterbacks. Doesn't mean they're out the next game. But who is gonna come in? Be like Patrick Creighton. He was an ex quarterback. You know, he could throw the football. You know, Dez on occasion probably could go under center or take a. Deep snap and he threw the ball decently as a left hander. But who's that guy now? I just don't know. Anybody talking about somebody on the team that could. Practice that and do that in this instance.

But yes, Cooper Rush was not great. The team rallied and they played well during that five games that Prescott missed and they stayed on track. He came back and they made the playoffs. That scenario still can hold true with Sam Howell and this group. We have a pretty damn good run game. We have some really great receivers. And if Parker is always cracked up to be and the defense is improved? OK. Why not? We're not talking about for the whole season. But even if it was, how many games did Nick Foles play down the stretch and into the playoffs? Was it the last six games?

So it just depends on the cowboy still in it when that happens, but we're just talking about. A scenario in which just one game, you lose both your quarterbacks. I'm just curious of who that guy is..

I'm gonna tell you something, Rock. I'll post an. Ask the question because it goes beyond the actual question. So if it holds true. That you can't use Milton. Off the practice squad, that was what we're discussing now, who would be? The Wildcat quarterback who on this team could take a snap? And run the team as a quarterback, even if they're a non quarterback...

Sometimes I gotta wonder why you don't think about what you need to say before you say it. And you should have never posted this because you didn't see that. I did read that and it didn't. Wasn't sure if there was any Gray area, but maybe it opens the discussion on where the Cowboys should add Milton to the 53. And if they don't, in the scenario where we lose two quarterbacks, if you can't read and follow. That is why I'm having this discussion. It is a multi tiered question whether it already was answered when I posted it, it opened up a discussion..

Tell me what I should post and not post or you're gonna get this kind of reaction, bud. What happened to the positivity? Are you upset? I thought of it first.?

It is worth the discussion or we wouldn't be having the discussion.

I literally read the results and just because. AI answered the question for me. In some ways. It didn't mean the rest of this discussion isn't important to me. I posted it because I felt like it. Yeah, it's funny how that happens. I didn't run it past Rockport. I didn't ask for permission from the group. Look, you got approved and now we're having a discussion about who might be the 3rd emergency quarterback. In a game in that scenario. Or maybe the Cowboys. At some point make Milton part of the 53 so they don't have to deal with this. But it is worth the discussion to me and that's why I posted twice. I mean, you sitting over here. Not just coming at me, but you're also having the discussion and wonder why I still posted it. I posted it because I thought it would open up. Further discussion..

Very interested to know who on this team can be like a Patrick Creighton or a Dez Bryant can throw the little ball a little bit. Who's practicing? That scenario because it's never really been talked about... The Cowboys have had to. Think about this, but they never have talked about it. This would be a question I would ask if I was in the. Press conferences, you know, they ask stupid questions there, if I was. There I would say, hey, who would be your player in this scenario where you had to run the Wildcat and have a non quarterback throw the football? I thought it was very open to discussion....

Maybe it's Brian Anger. I mean, you know, he handles the football. We saw him do some tosses. I don't know. I'm really curious. It usually is a running back or a receiver, but in this case I would be really curious and that is why I posted and why you're getting double dutied. I will give you another 600 character reply if you ever come at me again like that is so weird. That you didn't understand that I may have read the answer doesn't mean I didn't want to discuss it further..

That last paragraph is all you really need to know.
Yes, this is very true. The answer was there for me, but doesn't mean there's no Gray area and that there hasn't been. Something adjusted since the results that we can go find on Google and AI. But I was also wondering who would be the emergency wild cat quarterback who could throw the football? I mean this discussion to me I thought was more interesting, discussing why Milton left on 3 different threads, why Milton came back. Why we think that this and that? I thought this was very interesting. Why we think that this and that? I thought this was very interesting.

We can go talk about why they Opened up the cap and everyone's gonna overreact and think a big trade is coming. So I'm just gonna add that in here. I thought this was more interesting at the time, but hey, I'm gonna go post on that I already had to put the fires out on Twitter I think, yes, they've got some great Draft capital still left and they have money left, but I think they're going to wait until after game two or game three before the trade deadline to make sure there's not a major injury Or to see the bigger need that maybe is not more apparent until after they play games...

I don't trust either of our backups beyond a one- or two-game stretch. Neither of them is close to Cooper Rush material.
Yeah, that's insane.

First of all, Sam Howell is Cooper rush with more mobility. And somehow you've made Cooper rush into this statue that we should put outside the stadium. Like, I bet you were one of those guys. There was a few in here that said he was better than Prescott. He can run the offense better. That he didn't make mistakes and all that was untrue. I mean; he was so untrue that if you sit here and try to debate it with me. I probably not have any discussions with you anymore. I probably not have any discussions with you anymore.

Cooper Rush was not Nick Foles. You want backups? We can go to backup set, actually We're actually great. Maybe Beurline, I remember when some fools in here thought Kitna was better than Romo just 'cause he won a few games. That was also untrue.

But yeah, Cooper Rush knew how to run the offense. That's what Sam Howell Is here for he is a veteran that's been there He's been in many systems, but really he's the starter for the Washington for a dozen games. You need a guy who has been there before and that The Cowboys feel he is rush and that is why he won the job over milton...

I need to post Cooper Rush's actual stats during this game by game. The five or six games that he won, do do I have to bring up the Rams game or any of the Eagles games? Maybe you hadn't watched those games and see that Cooper rush? Barely can move the football. Maybe good for one touchdown. Did make mistakes, did fumble and did throw interceptions. And sometimes. The defense and the special teams actually stepped up in those games. They were playing poorly. And then Cooper, Russ got there. They got it figured out. That came back instantly, elevated the offense to what looked like a real offense.

So yeah, that we need to go there. I think Sam Howell can do that very thing. He is basically Cooper Rush with more mobility... Yes, we're only talking about a handful of games. Maybe 5 or 6 at most. That's the hope. But when you have a backup, that is why you choose the one that can possibly do that better. And that's why Milton didn't get the job yet. He's not quite been there in those situations....

But when you have a guy like Tyrod Taylor or Jacobi Brissett, not quite starting material, but they have won a few games. In situational football, and so is Sam Howell. May not be a big winner to you. But I think with this offense. And an improved defense. He can very well do what Cooper Rush did, 'cause that's only reason Cooper Rush did anything. He had a lot of help during those stretches...

So basically we're allowed to have 3 what's the issue, does that limit another position??
No, actually. You can't use someone brought up off the practice squad, meaning Milton, unless he's added to the actual 53 man roster. There will be no emergency 3rd quarterback during those games in which they only bring two. That's why the discussion turned from the rule to now, if the Cowboys decide to do this most of the season, who would be the guy to run the offense? Who's a non quarterback who can throw the ball? And maybe, you know, catch the snap from center. Can he go under center? Who can run the wild cat? Because I don't think I've. Heard that? Three or four years, I I've never even seen it..

Did it one time have Patrick Creighton, who was an ex quarterback? He could have done it. I've seen Dez Bryant throw the football. We've seen some strange things like Jeff Heath kicking the football. We know that. Hunter now is the. Emergency long snapper and holder. I believe that is why he's here. He's not just a fullback, he does a lot of stuff, so I'm curious of who that guy is. If two quarterbacks go down in it one game, just a single game scenario. Who do they trot out there to run the Wildcat? Or maybe even trick the team. It looks like a Wildcat but can throw the football.?

He has to be on the 53.

You only take 47 to the game, but you're allowed an emergency QB as a 48th.

If Milton played, the other two QBs can't come back inti the game.

Milton is on the practice squad, so he'd have to be promoted to be the emergency QB.

Howell is much more mobile, has a much stronger arm, and is more accurate than Rush.

Not even close.

Someone has to get cut to make room.

exactly but who is this player?
That is Christian McCaffrey.

very curious who is the best wildcat option we have?
It would likely be a pick 'em choice. Running back usually runs the wildcat, so one of the three active backs would be the most likely candidate. Passing is not often done out of the wildcat, but the best candidate would generally have some throwing ability and/or experience. None of the current running backs do, though, so ANY type of positive yardage via the wildcat would almost always be generated on the ground only.

First of all Christian Mccaffrey doesn't play for the Cowboys i'm saying who's that guy on our team i'm really exhausted thinking about it but I guess it's probably the scenario is a 1% chance of happening I was just curious because you know what sometimes these things pop up in games we've had fakes and you know reverses or pitch outs to someone like Dez Bryant then threw the football Didn't Witten catch a touchdown in a big game that way..

Yeah I wasn't expecting Miracles i'm thinking Tim Tebow like LOL you know jump passes you have to be creative they're not expecting you to pass so we need somebody that can handle the ball though we've seen real quarterbacks fumble snaps and have the snap go over his head on shotguns i'm saying who can handle the damn football i'm really curious it's it's an honest topic that doesn't get talked about..

It is bad enough not knowing one of the NFL's current premier players. It is worse when the player's name is listed on the back of his jersey, just like every Cowboys player's jersey.
