When Did You Buy into Camden Brown Making the 53-Man Cut?

When the room after Turpin was an entire group of guys who could be cut, he was the first one to step up and he did it in an emphatic way on a national stage.

Whether he gets more than 30 targets this year is a real debate, but I’m hopeful that if he gets in the field, he will at least look like he belongs in the NFL.

Are you saying Brown does not belong in the NFL?
Are you saying he just belongs on the bench for now?

I loved all of our preseason/TC WRs. We have a wonderful mixture of culture and talent. I hope our OCs and QBs can take advantage of it....with help form OL of course!

Better yet, have you bought into him even actually making the cut? This is not an anointing oil thread topic. Players' careers are made or broken in regular-season and/or postseason games. This topic asks if you believe he earned his opportunity. What he actually does with his opportunity from this moment on is not the question.

I bought in after what I saw him do in the preseason Seahawks game. Practice does not sell me. What a player does or does not do in a simulated game, even against backups, matters to me. At minimum, for wide receivers and tight ends, I want to see receptions caught within the player's catch radius. High/low passes. Throws placed in front and behind. Adjusting by jumping or diving for the ball. Fighting successfully for positional advantage against their defender.

A wide receiver's number one responsibility is catching catchable passes because no quarterback will ever throw perfect passes 100% of the time. It is still their job to haul in catchable passes, not the quarterback's.

I watched Michael Irvin coaching up Brown in @Xizor's thread. Irvin has always been supportive of any Cowboys player he has ever met. He has always lent his expertise to anyone. Irvin advises defensive players on what they should be looking for. That is the kind of guy he is.

What Irvin does not do is overhype the potential he sees in a young receiver. He knows what it takes. Irvin sees All-Pro potential in Brown. He likely bought in well before I did.

Watching him in preseason games that some here think are meaningless.

I kid!....I am fully "cautiously optimistic" too.

I want this team to prove it to themselves FIRST and the rest will fall into place.

Gonna be hard for these talented lower tier WR to make a dent. They'll have to be VIGILANT and almost perfect.

Flo did a great job last year of just being read when his numbers gets wrung. You don't always know that....when your 3-4-5 on the reads.

Hopefully these guys get coached up and made ready. Catch the ball make the play and things will happen. Good luck kids!

Every team has to prove it to themselves every year. That’s what they’ve been doing see OTA’s began. Waiting until they start winning to jump back on the bandwagon sounds sorta like a fair weather fan.

After the second preseason game, I thought he deserved a spot, but thought if he disappeared in the third, he might lose it. They didn't use him much in the third game, though, and he still made a play before they took him out.

He most likely didn’t see much time because they had already seen what they wanted/needed to. He’s earned it.

I think Brown will end up having better numbers this season than Fluornoy.

Look broskies, the guy has proven to be a major talent in college at smaller schools, and showed some crazy skills where he looked better than most Db's he was facing. Either way, the talent is through the roof, and he seems like a smart hard working over achiever and he's got Lamb and Pickens saying he is "ONE OF THOSE DUDES"... Having said all of that, lets remember he will be covered by DB's way down the depth chart, I have a feeling if he is used right this offense is going to be scary, especially if our run game is excelling... But, to answer the thread starters question, I was sold with him making the team during training camp and some of the insider stuff I was hearing..

The people that really got me were the Mingo > Brown “because Mingo plays special teams” people. There seemed to be a lot more of those people on the r/Cowboys subreddit than here.

I don’t follow the logic of cutting a guy who constantly is making plays on the offense for a guy who has done nothing on offense over 3 years in the league, just because that guy plays special teams.

STs are important, obviously. But there’s no point in cutting someone who appears to be a legitimate offensive weapon over it. There will be good STs guys available from other teams’ roster cuts.

Especially if you consider the fact we struggled a bit in the red zone last year, and Brown was a TD machine in college. 91 receptions, 17 of those were TDs.

I thought it was iffy, but I didn't know they were going to cut both Blue and Mafah to make room. Then they cut Milton to make room for another RB after the first cutdown.

They handled this well.

I FELT it after the TD from Milton. This was following all the camp talk and the contested TD catch from Howell that he really had no business catching. But after Game 2 I didn't see how he would possibly clear waivers.

The only real knock on him is his lack of speed. I'm sure his route-running needs improvement but he can learn that — and he might even be able to gain a step in an NFL conditioning program.

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that we’ll be able to get rid of Pickens and Lamb next year and go with the two future HOFers Flournoy and Brown. We’ll be set for a few years.

I remember precisely when it happened.

I was in deep meditation and supposed to be attaining oneness by balancing the Crown Chakra and the Third Eye when it suddenly became apparent that Cammy should be on the 53.

Needless to say I remained in a state of grace until dawn.
