FEATURED Tyler Smith Is Out 4-6 Weeks

So if they knew about this all along, I wonder why they didn't keep Keegan on the 53 and our only interior OL on the PS is Leverett who we also could have lost. I know Bass is the man, but for quite a while he is now a starter. I wonder if they are thinking Cornelius or Leverett as the next man up. Obviously Leverett if we need a center. We really need to add another OL

I was shocked and bummed out when I heard this. The best player on the O-line goes down a week before game 1. Not great.
I thought, well he must have just injured it in practice, that's too bad! But then heard that he's been dealing with it all through camp, excuse me? I have to wonder why he/they waited?
If it was a problem, if grip strength is as important to an offensive lineman as we know it is, why try to play through it all training camp? Why wait until a week before the opener to chose to have the surgery? I don't know the details, I wasn't in the room, but from my perspective it just doesn't make sense to me.
Knowing that it will sideline the best player on the line for 4-6wks. Which runs over a stretch of games that are not going to be easy for the back O-lineman to play against. The NYG, Balt, and Houston D-lines are very formidable.

IMHO, the very moment he/they realized that he had an issue, one that will require surgery to fix, he should have had the surgery. He didn't need another training camp to get ready, more than he needed to be ready for the season. But here we are.

Good luck TJ Bass step up and make us proud.

90% of what you read in this thread is wrong or wild speculation. I probably guessed as well.

Don't understand why they waited not like it was going to get better as the long season went on.

Wait broke the wagon and here we are with a broken offensive wagon and a lot of question marks.
Hopefully Bass can step up or maybe the new offensive lineman we got from Pittsburgh could surprise us.

This team is weird with injuries lol… so frustrating that our best OL is unavailable for at least 4 weeks. Wouldn’t surprise me if he needs to “ramp up” and we don’t see him for 8-10 weeks in reality.

They better be scouring the PS rosters and grab the best, most versatile interior OL out there to backup Bass. If he goes down, we are in serious trouble.

If he stays healthy, I think Bass can hold his own. Hoping for the best
Yup.

It’s likely too late for that.

They were able to find Jones. Burned the 3rd. But his blocking is beyond suspect.

All of this is because of Jerry’s ego.

Think about this.....Having burned through 3 IR designations before the season has even started....I'm just not burning another one on Tyler. Just can't do it. He can be inactive for a month if need be. But you put him on that IR....He's out @ least 5 games minimum....since that 5th game is vs Tampa on a Thursday. Hell....they open the practice window after 4 games...No way in hell they would rush him back for the Tampa game. He'd be out for 10 more days....and then...if we are damn lucky...He's back for the Oct. 18th game vs the Packers...@ the earliest.
Disgusting roster management. Who the hell is making these calls???? Cutting Blue....Cutting Milton.....Leaving yourself with one backup interior linemen...Knowing you already got 2 guys hurt in Smith and Cornelious....Just plain stupid.
Remember too, they let Trevor Keegan go and he was the best OL in the preseason games in my opinion.

as sophisticated and successful as todays sports surgery is, waiting simply does not make sense.
Agreed losing your best offensive lineman is a recipe for disaster.

The snowball gets rolling down the hill and gets your quarterback hurt then the season is done and all the effort you made and talent you stockpiled on defense is wasted as your backup quarterback tries to stop the Titanic from sinking.

Sky's not falling yet
But this sure isn't good news

The worst part of the Smith injury is that we know Guyton gets a high ankle strain every season plus Bebe seems to get banged up as well. Our line could be in big trouble with a simple twist of the ankle.

neither are you even though you think you are
Once again, without knowing who you are replying to, I know exactly who you are replying to. Too many homers in here are waving the Bass pom-pom set they have and think you can just replace a Pro Bowl LG with him. He might turn out to be solid, but to pretend the team handled this properly is naive. We will find out immediately when we play the nasty Giants D, and a clearer picture will follow. Does anybody in here trust Guyton to be a regular at LT? I would loveeeee to be proven wrong; I mean love to be proven wrong. If our left side breakds down, Dak will need to add to his insurance policy
