Pretty huge deal to me when you have to now start the season without our best OL with the questions we have at the bookend spots already.

LG is our best, proven backup lineman's best and most experienced position. There's no question we should still win the first 2 games. I'm not worried about Bass vs Giants or Commanders DTs.

If it was our Center or one of the starting OT's, I'd be worried the season might get away from us prior to TSmith's return.

"In need of interior offensive line depth after losing left guard Tyler Smith to a thumb injury, the Cowboys have signed 11-year veteran Laken Tomlinson, Todd Archer of ESPN reports. Tomlinson is joining the Cowboys’ practice squad.

A 2015 first-round pick and a former Lion, 49er, Jet, Seahawk and Texan, Tomlinson has amassed 162 starts in 173 appearances during his career. That includes a seven-season stretch (2018-24) in which the durable Tomlinson played and started in 116 straight games. He earned his lone Pro Bowl nod with the 49ers in 2021.


Unfortunately for Tomlinson, his long-running games and starts streaks ended in unceremonious fashion last year. Although the Texans brought him in on a deal worth $4.25MM, they reshuffled their offensive line midway through the season and benched Tomlinson.

After the 34-year-old made seven starts at left guard over a 10-game span, the Texans waived him in early December. Tomlinson caught on with the Ravens’ practice squad a week later, but they never elevated him to their roster. Detroit, where Tomlinson began his career, is the only team that showed reported interest in him before he agreed to a deal with Dallas."

Bummer. Adversity comes early for this team. The “new” culture has its first opportunity to show it is different.

Man made adversity. Why would you go through training camp with a star player playing injured. As Parcells said if are you hurt you can play. If you are injured you can't.

He should have been treated as injured and keep out of training camp to prepare for the season opener. Someone drop the ball on Smith's thumb.

This injury really has taken the wind out of my sails. This thing could really linger. Even in a way case scenario the Cowboys are missing the linchpin OL and easily top five player on the team. We don’t even know how good he will be upon return.
