No, no, not stupid. At the beginning of the game, you HAVE to assume your new and improved defense would slow the Dart and Skat. If not, if you think it's the same old defense as last year, well, then, the season is a lost-cause anyway.
If we don't have faith in this defense to force more than one punt in a game, then this season is a total bust anyway....doesn't matter whether they squeak a win in NY or not. Much tougher opponents are coming so....if this team has playoff aspirations, the defense has to play a lot better.
AND, so does the offense.
Just like last season, neither the offense nor defense were able to impose their will on the game early. It's like they're backpedaling from the first snap, playing BBDB on defense, and calling vanilla, basic plays on offense....making it easy on both the opposing OC and DC. THIS HAS TO STOP. It sets the tone for the first half.
CP and Schotty both failed tonight....and Schotty failed pretty often last year.
Same ol', same ol'...unitl it changes. I still haven't seen any signs of early aggression on EITHER side of the ball, which is such a failure for a coach.
