So during the entire ownership of the Dallas Cowboys via Jerry Jones, which are the top 3 worst decisions by management since the Jones' have owned the Cowboys? Here are mine:

1. Firing Jimmy Johnson following back to back Superbowl wins.
2. Not doing a single thing to get Adrian Peterson into a Cowboys uniform, a guy that called Jones and made it clear he has always wanted to be a Cowboy, and a guy who proved he could carry an entire team on his back as he repeatedly proved he was a wrecking machine of a runner.
3. I am so disgusted by the first 2 on the list that my head is spinning so much I cannot even think about a 3rd.

Let's hear your 3. Or will the management here crush the freedom of speech I put my *** on the line to protect in multiple wars and countless missions?

1. Johnson resigned on March 29, 1994, rather than Jones firing him. Johnson wrote down he was only to be in Dallas 5 years. Allowing him to leave was Jerry's biggest blunder.

After that (in any order):

1. Not getting AP, not drafting Randy Moss, not getting D. Henry
2. The Joey Galloway trade.
3. The Roy Williams trade and new contract.
4. Keeping Jason Garrett as HC for so long.
5. No succession plan for replacing Troy Aikman.
6. The 2020 defensive roster/coaching failure.
7. Not drafting T.J.Watt. Instead, we got a blah Taco.

And there's a bigger theme in all these decisions: The GM Jerry Jones and his unqualified ability to make personnel decisions while also retaining final control over football operations when he has no expertise to do that either.

So many to list over the years and just a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Not getting along with Jimmy cost the Cowboys another Super Bowl.

Joey Galloway trade and the Roy Williams trade were awful.

Refusing to hire a GM

Hiring Brian Shottenheimer as head coach

Firing Jimmy - Beyond stupid

Hiring Garrett - Wasted a decade with that fraud

Drafting Taco over Watt

Chasing Parcells away and giving a SB team to Wade Frigging Phillips

The "Special Teams Draft" - One of the worst in NFL history.

Hiring Brian Shottenheimer - Because NO ONE else would even consider it

Not going all in on Romo's and Dak's rookie deals - Cheap QB would have been the time to spend big

Even mentioning drafting Johnny Cocaine

Not one but 2 WRs for multiple top picks. I mean didn't he learn.

I could go on and on and on.

The Jones family ruined the Dallas Cowboys.

Jimmy quit,

  1. Jerry insisting on being the final say in all football decisions
  2. Never allowing the "head coach" to have the power to hire and fire, leaving them with only gametime clock management as their only source of power
  3. Doubling down on using the same failed management tactics to try to build a deep playoff run team after 30 years of evidence says it can't be done with Jerry making all the final decisions

Did you really have to remind me?
Joey Galloway,
Wide receiver, Roy Williams,
Randall Cunningham, that’s one I’ll never forgive

1) The failure to install qualified people in the FO, especially a GM, even after years of failure on the part of the Jones boys.
2) Not making the Jimmy Johnson thing work out and continue. Johnson was not ready to quit coaching. He even went to Miami for a few years.
3) 9.5 years of Jason Garrett.

Those are the top 3 but the list goes on and on and on and on.....

Mo tradeup
Consistently wasting 2nd round picks
Falling for draft fluff(Escobar for example)
Ignoring the DT and S positions until the mid/late rounds and then making questionable picks
Horrific player evaluations(Mazi, Kelvin, Schoonmaker)
Paying the wrong players(Diggs/Bland/Crawford/Jaylon)
Refusing to hire legit NFL personnel

Swing and a miss.
The Jimmy vs Jerry debate is crusty and dusty and old and has no place in this thread.
Well, then it should not have been mentioned, should’ve it
And there’s no debating, he quit.

Jerry should've done everything in his power to keep Jimmy. Instead, he let him walk. That is the fact. Isn't that what was said?

Here's my problem: Getting into the Jimmy vs Jerry debate is not only off topic but gets in the way of good discussion/convo.

Well, then stop talking about it

Now that is a great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you watch any of the MLB playoffs?
I’m still watching replay, of Jalen hurts getting buried on the sideline,
I’m tired of putting down this franchise, it just makes me more frustrated
So many freaking bad decisions over the years

That was such a bad loss against Baltimore,
If I was a player, I would find it hard to get motivated for the Houston game

I wouldn't have called that a late hit.

Of course, but it is deserved. And now we're trying to fix 30 yrs of bad decisions in 1-2 offseasons. Ick

1. Hiring Jason Garrett
2. Keeping Jason Garrett for so long
3. Not firing Jason Garrett after 4 years.
Feel the same way. He is still haunting this team in some ways. His sayings that Stephen Jones still uses and this antiquated pass offense that Dak prefers was pushed heavily by him.l

But during those Garrett years I got canceled and posts deleted here because of the “negative” view of Garrett. And here we are still trying to recover from RKGs, Stacking Days, Execute, and the new stupidity he just said on Sunday night: “You can’t score points without explosive plays”. (Yes you can).
