Only Jerry Jones could do this. And our fans will eat it up

Jerry is just doing what a GM should do. We have a huge need even without the injuries. OP's post implies there is a deal to be made for a pass rusher that is feasible. Anyone know what that is? Raiders starting 3-0 seem to have taken the wind out of that sail. Jerry could do everything perfectly going forward and all the glass-half-empty posters will spin it all. I'm not sure how a GM making a trade for a position we desperately need is a "distraction". Resigning Zeke was a distraction. This is Jerry operating as he should have been the past 15 years. He's been awful for so long that when he finally starts making moves Howie and Les would make we are still finding fault in them. If they can still trade for a pass rusher they should do it, but to my knowledge there is no obvious deal to be made.
No.

What I am saying is to stop spending draft capital on a season where its obvious this team isnt competing.

Oh noe we lost out on the 50th best college player in the draft that’s 560 days away
Doesn’t mean much now. Doesn’t mean it won’t be significant in 560 days. The Steelers got something for a player they could not get on the field. Porter wants a lot of money. If this turns out to be a 14 game rental it’s not a good deal.

He’s a $23 million tag…and you can only tag one guy per year. He turned down more than that from the Steelers. This guy is going to be lying on a training table in less than 560 days if he doesn’t get what he wants. Where did he go to college?

Only the Dallas Cowboys could look at a defense with TWO sacks in three games and decide the missing piece was a cornerback.

Not a pass rusher.

Not someone who can collapse the pocket.

Not someone capable of making a quarterback feel even mildly inconvenienced.

A cornerback.

The Cowboys have zero sacks over the last two games. Opposing quarterbacks have enough time in the pocket to make a sandwich, check their email, update their fantasy lineup and then wait for somebody to come open.

So Jerry Jones looked at that mess and said, “You know what would fix this? Let’s trade a future second-round pick for Joey Porter Jr.”

Brilliant.

That’s like watching your house burn down and ordering a new doorbell.

Porter is at his best when he can get physical and play press-man coverage. Dallas plays a zone-heavy system roughly 70 percent of the time.

So naturally, the Cowboys traded premium draft capital for a corner whose best skill doesn’t match the defense they currently run.

Either change the scheme or explain what the hell the plan is.

Because right now, the plan appears to be asking Porter to cover receivers for nine seconds while the defensive line politely waits for the quarterback to finish reading the entire field.

And it gets better.

Porter hasn’t played a single game this season because of a back injury. He is in the final year of his rookie contract and reportedly wants more than $30 million per season.

Dallas gave up a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick for the privilege of inheriting the injury, the contract dispute and the questionable scheme fit.

Oh, and Porter has committed 38 penalties in three seasons.

That part actually makes perfect sense.

Dallas led the NFL with 133 accepted penalties last season, so at least they found someone who already understands the culture.

Welcome to the Cowboys, Joey. Your jersey, locker and weekly holding penalty are ready.

To be clear, Porter is a talented player. He could absolutely improve this secondary.

But cornerback was not the fire currently burning down the building.

The fire is a pass rush with two sacks in three games and none since Week 1. The fire is opposing quarterbacks standing comfortably in the pocket until someone eventually gets open. The fire is a defense that cannot finish a pressure, end a drive or get off the field when it matters.

A great corner can help a pass rush by making the quarterback hold the ball longer.

But eventually, somebody still has to sack him.

Dallas apparently forgot that part.

This is what the Cowboys always do. They make the loud move instead of the logical move. Jerry gets a recognizable name, the media gets a week of content and fans are expected to pretend the defense has been fixed.

Meanwhile, the pass rush still couldn’t get home if you gave it a GPS and paid for the tolls.

Only the Dallas Cowboys could have no pass rush, run a zone-heavy defense and solve both problems by trading a premium pick for an injured press-man corner who needs a massive new contract.

Jerry Jones isn’t building a defense.

He’s collecting names.
Nuff Said....Really.

He is a "like" farmer
No. I dont really care for validation.

This is a public forum, I post my opinions.

Some of them get liked, others bashed.

Thats a lot like life.

My opinion is trading for another player, out of contract, in a year when this team isnt going anywhere, is stupid.

They collect out of contract players like infinity stones so they can drum up offseason drama with the contract negotiations.

Yall are just too enamored with the team to see it objectively.

Having studied marketing, and looking at this team for what it is. A marketing team that occasionally shows up to play football.

It all makes a lot more sense when you see the way Jerry and his family operate.

Dumb post

Who said cowboys can’t also go get a pass rusher?

This idea that oh we traded for the wrong player / position is so naive and stupid. Cowboys defense is trash and needs multiple players. Get as many good players on this defense as you can get. Now go get a pass rusher too before the deadline
Yep, maybe that will allow us to finish above .500 this year.

i feel your frustration, but couple of things (that may have already been stated) we don't just get to pick whoever we want, they have to be available. do you know of any needle moving pass rushers that are available? we just drafted a first round pass rusher, we just added two veterans in free agency, we have a high 2nd round pick from last year. also being able to cover can hypothetically give the boys up front time to get home. Also also, the secondary is DECIMATED, they had to do something and just so happened there's a bluechip corner available on a team we've been friendly with lately, and for compensation we can stomach. and lastly, this doesnt necessarily prevent additional moves.

It should.

This team isnt competing for a SB or even the playoffs this year. They cant stop the run, or the pass, and cant rush the passer. That first round pick was a project. And we are seeing that. EZ is "ALMOST THERE" all the time.

Not to mention. Porter isnt a zone corner. Hes a man corner. And he wont be signing here easily regardless of what his agent told him to say.

Jerry is a marketing genius though.

He now has 2 guys he can create contract drama with all off-season.

I would agree that the bigger catalyst to our defense would be improving the pass rush. To your house comparison, that's absolutely the foundation.

But our defense is bad. It's hard to imagine a top-flight corner NOT helping in some capacity.

Big picture? To me, this move keeps us in contention to win a bad NFC East division. I don't see us contending for anything beyond that.

Exactly. So why bother?

Especially for a guy you now have to pay MASSIVE money to.

Who also doesnt fit your scheme lol

While I don’t disagree that edge rusher is a glaring problem, I would just like you to let us know which pass rusher is available for trade right now? Before this move we needed LB, CB, and Edge. Jerry traded for what was available. Maybe an edge rusher or LB becomes available and he makes another trade. With our injuries in the secondary this hopefully keeps Caelon Carson off of the field

I agree with you. but which pass rusher was available?

we thought crosby, but raiders are cooking now and not going to part ways with him outside of a total collapse in the next 4 games

No offense to the four NFC East franchises, but it’s not a comparatively tough division. Some team will be left in first place after week 18. Cowboys are as likely as the Commanders, Eagles, or Giants to be that team.

Not a lot of pride in that, I guess, but it’s still “making” the playoffs.
