Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said on @SASportsStar that talks with the Steelers about Joey Porter Jr. started at the beginning of the season.

“This definitely checks a big box for us. This will allow (Shavon Revel) to continue to develop and learn from one of the best. (They) have the same body type. They’re the same type of players.

“Certainly, I think it’s (also) good for (DaRon Bland). We can put Bland to the field (side) where he can make plays on the ball, which is what he does best. Put Porter in the boundary against some of the top receivers in the league, and he’s proven he can do a good job against those guys.

“It certainly checks a huge box for us. But I think it also makes a statement as to what the organization, the coaching staff, the players, we feel like we got a great football team.”

He absolutely, positively heard the scouts say all of this.

It's true about Revel. Same body type. Porter is more physical. Revel has better ball skills.

That’s what I like about this setup. It’s not just about getting the best three corners on the field. It’s about putting each guy in a role that maximizes what he does well. Bland playing more to the field gives him opportunities to use his instincts and ball skills, while Porter taking the boundary lets him use his size and physicality against bigger outside receivers. And for Revel, getting to develop behind those guys and learn from that experience could be huge. If they can get Revel ready without having to throw him into the fire, that gives Dallas some real flexibility in the secondary. I'm loving the direction we are going at that position!

I’m surprised they aren’t talking about bland in the slot and freeing up downs to move around more.
I thought this might be more of a case of Revel not being there yet and Durant being worth what we paid for him, which means more depth than quality starter. With both of them battling injuries, it made it more imperative to get a starter opposite Bland.

I still think Parker primarily wants a safety in slot.

Heresy! Stephen told the scouts all of this...these are true football men in the Dallas FO.

Agreed regarding the Revel comp and differences between the two.

If you think anything Stephen says qualifies as football talk.....
Not a fan of this FO.
But I do have hate on them constantly. And they do know more football than you think they do.
Probably more than most on here.
