Do y'all think Houston and/or Lawrence will get more snaps at edge to try and generate more pass rush? Not that anyone is so far but Gary just isn't getting it done. And does anyone think they can (or will) try Barham at edge rusher once Overshown is back?

Before you crucify me, I only bring it up because pass rush is by far our biggest issue and frankly he seems to be a guy that has some real juice. Be honest, before training camp most of us thought he was drafted to be a 3/4 OLB and would rush the QB most of the time. They moved him to MLB and it's been good, really good at times. But he has the skills to passrush.

If we can get some pass rush elsewhere I'd would love to see Overshown and Barham at LB together, Barham seems a beast at MLB and I think the WLB might be the better spot for Overshown anyway as he seems to do better in space reading and reacting to QBs and plays outside the hashes.

Micah Parsons was drafted as an off the ball linebacker. Dan Quinn moved him to edge and he became a ridiculous pass rusher. I don’t think it’s a terrible idea. Barham’s only weakness seems to be having to cover and work in space. It may be worth a shot.

I think Barham needs reps rushing. He has experience in doing it. He’s explosive and violent, can fight around blocks (vs EZ who runs into the tackle and stalemates him)…good traits for rushing. I don’t see EZ really doing enough to get AROUND the tackles.

Agree. I would sign Wagner, and throw more rushing in by Barham. Our linebacker core is so garbage we need Barham there, but maybe he’s like Micah and he uses his explosiveness and ability to get around blockers to be a really good rusher. Man, if he turned out to be a good rusher……would could do with that and Wagner at mlb.

Barham is going nowhere. The coaches drafted him to play off ball linebacker.

He has been playing great in that spot for a rookie so far. You don’t mess with that.

I need Barham to be a linebacker

The guys upfront gotta start kicking butt…..if we gotta send Barham just to get pressure this defense is in worse shape than i thought
Bingo, we need people to start getting to the QB. We need more than Barham and Downs to become players.

Whatever they do, they've got to control the edges. Both sides have been kinda leaky.

Parsons had terrible instincts as a linebacker.

He had great instincts as a pass rusher.

Where is Barham showing great instincts?
Exactly - let the kid grow in the position where he’s already showing the league he has legit potential.

No.

He was drafted to be a MLB.
Yes, apparently they did draft him for that role. But I'm saying that most of the rest of the football world believed he was a better fit as a 3/4 OLB, to be a pass rusher first, who could drop into cover occasionally.
Very, very few people will convince me that pre-draft they thought of him as more of a MLB than OLB. I call BS.
Turns out they may have been right about his ability to do both, but the pass rusher is still there. And they definitely need a pass rusher.

NO

We finally found a physical downhill off the ball middle linebacker and you want to move him outside absolutely not not even a little bit for 1 play no hell no but you know what you can do put overshone in there Yep make him Outside linebacker a defensive end his new position it's not much different than weak side and now you have all three on the field at the same time 'cause believe it or not Winters was brought in here because he has experience he played all 17 games last year for the 49ers how about having Barham next to Winters and put overshown in place of Eazy E on the outside or he can take the rookie Lawrence's snaps or more of them I would like to see overshown not have to work through traffic He's fast his first step He's really good when he doesn't have to figure out whether he should shed a block take on a block he has to be too physical I want overshown out there there's your resolution you don't take winters off the field you add overshown to it because it's been getting better consistency is what we need here and now you want to take our middle linebacker and move him outside

hell no
