Romo walking away from CBS will probably be a paid a good portion of the $72M remaining

Didn't Romo say he needed time to step away and focus on his family and on getting well?

Maybe the split from CBS means he wants multiple years away from this. Maybe for good.

I said earlier that with $72m left on his contract im sure his lawyers negotiated at least a $40m walk away price tag.

There has been rumors this incident provided them an out on his contract as they were suspected of wanting out due to some pushback on his ratings of late. And just his overall performance and interest was growing stale.
So it’s performance based? Because I didn’t really see much better with Watt.

Total speculation by me..

There has been rumors CBS wanted out of that contract.

Romo gave them one with the DUI.

Romo then says he has a drinking problem and he’s seeking counseling / help so they can’t outright fire him and not pay him.

They get rid of Romo and settle.
I get that. And maybe it’s going over my head but why did they want out? It can’t be the money if they gave him what he was owed anyway.

We’ve been seeing rumors that they wanted to move on from Romo for awhile.

I wonder why they settled…?

Was that the full amount owed or did they save some?

Edit: So I just looked and he had signed a 10 year 180 million dollar deal.

That’s basically the remainder of 10 year 180 million deal which has 4 years left .

I think they just wanted to get rid of Romo.
Yeah but typically there’s a reason for that. Performance based, money, controversy…..this firing not only didn’t seem warranted but seemed long overdue based on their actions. Waiting for a out to fire someone seemed calculated.

From eyes he was good at what he did. Maybe not the same as when he started but still solid. They paid him money to go.

No one really has the answers at this point and it will eventually come out. I just think there’s more than simply “they just wanted him fired”. It’s always more than that with these billion dollar corporations.

That is what I heard as well
They knew that trying to use the morals clause would almost certainly fail in court and a good lawyer would use discovery to hang CBS out to dry
Plus Romo didn’t want his personal situation to be drug out in court and in the media . Wouldn’t have been good for either and why CBS is willing to pay full amount.

And now he’ll take a year off and then come back and double dip on his money.
Hes got a non-compete clause that stops him from working for a legitimate sports media company.......which opens up the door for a job at ESPN

Perception in the media and entertainment world is often difficult for everyone to measure .
